WELCOME TO RAMBERT Welcome to our January - July 2020 events programme for Rambert supporters, designed to get you closer to our work, dancers and creative teams. Highlights of the 2020/21 season include the premiere of our new co-production with The Royal Ballet, Aisha and Abhaya at the Linbury Theatre which goes on to tour internationally throughout the year; the recreation of Enter Achilles by Lloyd Newson (DV8 Theatre) which comes to Sadler’s Wells in May; the main company continue to tour our Wayne McGregor/ Marion Motin/ Hofesh Shechter triple bill programme to theatres across the UK; and Rambert2 continue to tour their triple bill programme of new works by Andrea Miller and Jermain Spivey, alongside Sin by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet. A full list of upcoming performances and dates can be found enclosed. We hope that you can join us at your local theatre soon, where alongside performances we are offering supporters access to company class at a number of venues on tour. Don’t forget that as well as our touring programme, we have a range of activities and events taking place at our South Bank studios, from dance and fitness classes, creative workshops and intensive programmes, to private rehearsals, open classes, talks and back by popular demand – the annual Supporters’ Open Day! RAMBERT’S 2020 SEASON Rambert2 Norwich Playhouse Fierce new moves from fierce new dancers - Rambert2’s dancers Wed 29 - Thu 30 January 2020 combine technical virtuosity with raw energy, bringing work by Bristol Old Vic some of the most exciting international choreographers to the Tue 11 – Thu 13 Feb 2020 stage. artsdepot, London Rambert2’s new programme features Sin, a duet by Damien Wed 6 May 2020 Jalet and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, originally part of their 2010 Oliver Award-winning piece Babel(words). It also includes Sama, Exeter Northcott a new work by Andrea Miller, a star of the New York dance Mon 11 - Tue 12 May 2020 scene known for “visceral, imaginative work, where dancers Oxford Playhouse can seem to do the impossible” (Dance Magazine). Completing Tue 19 - Wed 20 May 2020 the programme is new work Terms and Conditions by Jermaine CAST, Doncaster Spivey, a dancer and choreographer best known for his standout Wed 3 - Thu 4 June 2020 performances with Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot. Northern Stage, Newcastle Rambert2 also perform the playful, mischievous and moving, Tue 9 - Wed 10 Jun 2020 Kamuyot - designed for non-theatre spaces and performed in the Kamuyot at Paul Hamlyn Hall, round, breaking down the barrier between dancers and audience. Aisha and Abhaya Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera A powerful new dance work combining visually stunning film, House, London animation and live performance. Tue 21 Jan - Sun 9 Feb 2020 Aisha and Abhaya are two sisters in a fantastical world, but one Haus de Berliner Festspiele, Berlin riven with familiar troubles and dangers. Seeking refuge from Wed 11 - Fri 13 Mar 2020 their violent homeland, they struggle to fight and survive in a new country, in this contemporary tale of hope, fearlessness and love. A feast for the senses, this new creation by director Kibwe Tavares brings together visually stunning film, animation and live performance, with choreography by Sharon Eyal, music by Sharon’s regular collaborator Ori Lichtik and rising star GAIKA, and beautifully lavish costumes by Uldus Bakhtiozina. A co-production between Rambert and The Royal Ballet, in association with BBC Films and Robin Saunders. Fri 13 - Sun 15 Mar 2020 As pertinent now as it was when first staged in 1995, the Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg production lifts the lid on “the straitjacket of what’s deemed Sat 21 - Sun 22 Mar 2020 to be masculine” (The Observer), examining the terrors and Dansens Hus, Olso tenderness of beer-soaked testosterone. JOIN IN AT RAMBERT Dance has the power to transform lives and each year tens of thousands of people join us in a range of activities, engaging them in contemporary dance and the work of Rambert at our award-winning studios on London’s South Bank and in schools across the country. For schools and colleges, we offer tailor-made workshops on Rambert’s seminal works on the national curriculum such as A Linha Curva and Rooster, and critically- acclaimed newer works such as Rouge by hip-hop choreographer Marion Motin. With community and voluntary organisations, we collaborate on projects to attract and develop new audiences. These projects vary from festivals to working with young community builders and is led by local communities. For children and young people, we offer weekly workshops ranging from sessions for children aged 2+ through to young adults. These sessions are designed for making new friends and beginning a lifelong love of dance. Classes on offer at our studios currently include contemporary, ballet, yoga, hip-hop and much more. For adults, we offer dance and fitness classes that are social learning experiences at our South Bank home. Classes are available in contemporary dance, ballet and body conditioning, for all levels and include options such as one-off workshops, creative courses and intensives on newer forms of dance. There is also an osteopathy, sports massage and Pilates clinic on-site. As a Rambert supporter you can enjoy priority booking and 10% off all adult classes on offer at our South Bank studios. PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Professional Class Weekdays, 9.00 -10.15am We offer morning drop-in classes every Monday to Friday on a diverse range of approaches to movement taught by Rambert’s artistic team and visiting guest artists. With a strong focus on accuracy and articulation, these fast-paced technique classes are designed to enhance the core skills required for professional practice, challenging you and refining both your expressive abilities and physical endurance. Rooted in Ohad Naharin’s evolving movement language, GagaLab offers a framework to develop your artistry while connecting to your skills, imagination, and passion to move. Awaken your senses and turn on your engines in morning Gaga/dancers classes. Then apply Gaga tools to Naharin’s renowned, challenging choreography in daily repertory sessions, and deepen your understanding of Gaga in afternoon methodics classes.
