EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING COOPERATIVE EDUCATION COURSES Co-op Education Linked to a Related Course (Courses) This course consists of a learning experience connected to a community and a cooperative education curriculum that incorporates relevant expectations from the student’s related course (or courses). Students will develop skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will support them in their learning, including their education and career/life planning, at school and beyond, today and in the future. Within the context of their experience connected to a community, students will apply, extend, and refine skills and knowledge acquired in their related course or courses and will apply skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will protect and promote their health, safety, and well-being. They will create and implement a learning plan that meets their particular interests and needs, reflect on their learning, and make connections between their experience in the community and other aspects of their lives. The following Cooperative Education courses are double credit courses offered in the mornings or afternoons in both semesters. There is also a four credit co-op package available in second semester only for certain technology based co-ops (construction, electrical, automotive service/autobody, welding, manufacturing). This will be in addition to offering the double credit co-ops in these technology based areas. Students must take the regular school-based related course first or concurrently if they want to choose to take the related co-op course. The first five digits of the co-op course must match the first five digits of the in-school pre-requisite course. Example: Students choosing to take the 2 credit Biology co-op course SBI 3UD must have already taken, or have chosen to concurrently take SBI 3U1 Students who choose a co-op course on their course registration will be contacted (usually in early April) by a co-op teacher who will provide them with an application form, and teacher reference forms to be completed. An interview will follow to determine suitability for the coop program.
