ABOUT THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RICHMOND GOLF CLASSIC The American Cancer Society’s 29th annual Richmond Golf Classic, presented by CCA Financial, will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Country Club of Virginia. HISTORY- The American Cancer Society – CCA Financial Richmond Golf Classic has a rich history that dates back to its inception in 1989. Bill Goodwin, Mac Duke, and Greg Williams, teamed up with the American Cancer Society to offer Richmond area golfers a chance to enjoy a day of friendly corporate competition and to support the fight against cancer at the same time. CCA Financial has remained the Presenting Sponsor every year since. In 2017, over $120,000 was raised to support local American Cancer Society programs that are provided free to those who need them. Over the past 28 years, the ACS – CCA Financial Golf Classic has raised over $3 million. The result of this tournament has made a huge impact in sup- porting groundbreaking research at local hospitals, bringing cancer education to health care pro- viders, offering free life-saving services to cancer patients and caregivers in Central Virginia, and providing advocacy efforts in the Virginia legislature and Congress. The 29th Annual ACS Richmond Golf Classic Committee and the Country Club of Virginia invite you to experience a true Richmond golf experience unlike any other! Early entry teams can lock in their spot to play on the exclusive James River Course at CCV. Registration begins at 10:00 AM and golfers tee off at 11:00 AM. Here are just a few ways your support is helping the American Cancer Society save lives: 24/7 Help We are there for cancer patients and their families 24-hours a day, seven days a week at cancer.org or by calling 1-800-227-2345. Our cancer information specialists can help patients and their families locate a hospital, understand cancer and treatment options, learn what to expect and how to plan, help address insurance concerns, find financial resources, connect with local support groups, and more. Road To Recovery® Having cancer is hard. Finding a ride to treatment shouldn’t be. The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides free rides to cancer patients to and from treatments. Trained volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help patients get to the treatments they need. Research Your support helps the American Cancer Society invest in groundbreaking cancer research. As of December 2016, the Society is investing in more than $7.9 million in 12 cancer re- search grants in Virginia, including grants at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Virginia. Hope Lodge® The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program provides free overnight lodging to cancer patients and their caregivers who have to travel away from home for treatment. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for it allows patients to focus on the most important thing: getting well. If a Hope Lodge is not available in the treatment area, the Society develops local partnerships with hotels to help offset the cost of overnight accommodations.
