Na Fianna’s Corporate & Charity lunch, in partnership with St. John of God services, took place on Wednesday March 4th in Croke Park and thankfully it was a huge success. We had nearly 200 guests on the day, the sun shone and all enjoyed the pre championship panel of Shane Barrett, Richie Hogan alongside Bernard and Alan Brogan. Our very own Jonny Cooper and Eoin Murchan also gave us an insight into their plans for 2020 and spoke about the important role sport plays in maintaining a positive mental health. A real treat then after dinner as our wonderful MC Gavin Jennings was joined by Noel Meade’s leading jockey Sean Flanagan and Gavin Lynch from the Racing Post’s Up the Ante for a special Cheltenham preview. Pens scribbled fast as Gavin spoke tips and Sean gave a fascinating insight into the bravery and risks top class jockeys take on a daily basis to compete in the sport they love. Uachtaran CLG Sean O hOrain, new Dublin Senior Football Manager Dessie Farrell, Dublin GAA President Jimmy Gray, club President Paddy King and DCU President Brian McCraith all joined us on a very enjoyable afternoon raising much needed funds for Na Fianna and our charity partner St. John of God services. We were honoured to have a group of members from St. John of Gods Kerry with us on the day and they enjoyed every minute of their time in Croke Park – they are keen to see Kerry back in Croker with SAM come August/September but we cannot promise them that! Mile Buiochas to all who attended and/or supported the event, really appreciated, and with a bit of luck and buy in from all, we can make it even bigger for future years. Enjoy the pictures and a reminder of a wonderful afternoon.
A key focus for the day was on highlighting the important role sport plays in supporting your mental health. We heard stars of the game discussing how they have relied on sport and the bond within a group to get them through tougher times and there was one key message for all from the day, young and old……….. https://www.sjogkerryservices.ie It’s OK not to be OK Pick up the phone, talk to a friend or neighbour, give a friendly face in the club a shout and know you are not alone. For further information on the wonderful work that St. John of Gods do, for people at various stages of their mental health journey, see https://www.stjohnofgodhospital.ie/
