The boys were ready this time, looking for a little basketball revenge, and that is what they got. The game started with Lansing up and it stayed that way the home game. The LCS boys ended up winning that game 37-30. Four regular games followed, Calvary, Calvin, DeMotte, and Highland. The boys ended up losing to Calvary, winning against Calvin and DeMotte, and losing to Highland. We were seeded fifth in the tournament and had to play fourth-seeded Crown Point in the first game. We led the first 3 quarters in the game, playing great defense and getting good shots. The final quarter was a nail-biter, the teams trading leads, with Crown Point up by three after making two free throws. With just seconds remaining, a three-pointer went up, hit the ceiling, and the game ended, 35-38. What an ending! But it showed what the coaches had been tell- ing the boys all season: if the boys played as a team, they could compete and win against any team they played. They also were repeatedly told (and probably wake up in cold sweats hearing) three things: “Finish it”! (make your layup shots), “Box out!” (everyone can do this well, and they did), and “Follow your shot!” (easier said than done). Special thanks to Trent Kamp for taking stats at all our games. Great boys, great time, great season!
