History
Southport (YSPT) is a beautiful private aerodrome located just north of the
picturesque Gold Coast in Coombabah (Queensland). The airport was founded in
1971 by a group of pilot enthusiasts with the first hanger being built shortly thereafter
in 1972.
Situated at 5ft above sea level, Southport has one runway measuring 778 meters
long which displaced thresholds at both ends due to trees. When flying circuits, they
should be conducted to the western side of the runways and;
Runway 01 – Preferred for departures
Runway 19 - Preferred for arrivals
You will also find near the threshold of runway 19 the home to an abundance of
wildlife, in particular hundreds of kangaroos. Don’t forget to say hello to them when
you next visit Southport.
