As a member of Troup 1 in Greenville, Nicholas installed water bars on the World War II Memorial Trail in Wolf Hill Preserve in Smithfield. Installation of the water bars were on a trail that is heavily eroded by rain runoff. Water bars are used to prevent trail erosion by diverting water off the trail, thereby preserving the trail, and keeping it open to use by the public. The Smithfield Land Trust, users of Wolf Hill Preserve and residents of the Town of Smithfield and surrounding communities benefit from this project. There is also a benefit to the environment as the water bars will prevent soil erosion, which can lead to a reduction in vegetation and water pollution. Nicholas Cichon 6 | JUNE 2022
