Ski Matters Page FIVE COMMON SKIN PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS JEFFREY SASSMANNSHAUSEN MD , Flawless skin takes work. While it is true there are a few lucky people that do not need to put effort into their perfect, clear skin, the majority of us do. As we age, developing a good skincare regimen becomes a necessity to fight off wrinkles and a host of other skin concerns that arise with aging (and by aging, we mean anyone over 30). Below, we have rounded up some of the most common skin problems we see at Three Rivers Dermatology & Windy Ridge Skin Care Centre, and the easy solutions to combat them! Acne It does not just affect young people. Acne is a frustrating problem for adults as well, especially females. Humidity, stress, diet, sweating and bad hygiene can worsen acne. A lot of treatments are out there but we recommend beginning with good hygiene habits (cleanse and moisturize your face twice daily) and a customized skin care regimen. ENO Take it one step further and come in to Windy Ridge Skin Care Centre for regular facials and/or chemical peels to help deep clean your pores and remove the impurities from your skin. If you are lost when it comes to the best products for your face, we will recommend what will work for your skin type and concerns. Just ask! Our skin care specialists are highly educated on the products we offer and receive ongoing training by Dr. Sassmannshausen and other leading industry professionals. ....Co ti ued o page .
Five Co o Ski Proble s a d Solutio s Co ti ued... Ski Matters Page Eczema It is estimated that over 30 million Americans have eczema, and it is often much more than just a frustrating patch of skin. It can be itchy, and scratching can cause more problems like swelling, redness, cracking, oozing, secondary infections, pain, and overall OWT unsightly skin. Properly treating eczema requires more than prescription medications. It is so important to keep skin moisturized with the right products and also to try to address the cause of eczema. Proper cleansing and hydration also helps restore the skin's barrier and repairs the skin's function. We can help by recommending products that will complement your medications and will hydrate, repair and restore your skin! Rosacea Rosacea’s trademark is redness. Red cheeks, red nose and red chin. This inflammatory EERHT skin disease is frustrating and worsens if left untreated. It’s important to address factors that might trigger flares such as the sun, certain foods, drinks, alcoholic beverages and products with skin-disagreeable ingredients. We recommend soothing products like SkinMedica Redness Relief CalmPlex which hydrates and calms redness. Regular facials designed for rosacea skin will also make a huge different to anyone's complexion. Sunburn We have all had that moment where we have looked in the mirror to confront bright, angry skin glaring back at us. Sunburn is no joke and it hurts like heck! It is also damaging RUOF to your skin and can lead to future problems such as skin cancer. Of course, the best protection is preventing potential damage with sunscreen. The next best thing for a sunburn is Biafine, which is a prescription cream that significantly speeds healing. If you have been scorched multiple times in the past and have sun-damaged skin or sun spots now, we can use several different treatments as remedies. When you’re ready, let us walk through a complimentary consultation to discuss your options! Wrinkles This is the evidence of aging that none of us will escape: wrinkles! And what is the number one cause of wrinkles? Ultraviolet light exposure from the sun and tanning beds! EVIF You can prevent wrinkles by wearing sunscreen daily, using a moisturizer and taking care of your skin to keep it healthy. Cigarettes and vaping are also culprits in wrinkle formation. Nicotine deprives skin cells of essential nutrients leading to early aging. Put an end to smoking today, for your skin and for a number of other reasons. To find out more about revitalizing skin and reducing wrinkles, let us discuss the products and treatments tailored specifically to wipe out your unwanted wrinkles. Give yourself some love and self-care by addressing these skin concerns. Visit Three Rivers Dermatology & Windy Ridge Skin Care Centre and we will help you!
Avoid holiday gain WITH THESE SIMPLE TIPS The holidays are notorious for weight gain woes. As soon as Thanksgiving arrives, it’s as though the universe is pointing us out like Uncle Sam: We want YOU… to eat this pie. Okay, we’re being dramatic, but it takes incredible self-control to reach New Year’s without a few added pounds. We aren’t suggesting you abolish all the joy of holiday eating, because that is unrealistic and no fun! Instead, use the following tips to strive for balance and moderation when you’re holiday party-hopping. KEEP HEALTHY HABITS DURING THE WEEK Since the weekends during the holidays fill up fast with food-indulging frenzies, it helps to keep your diet and exercise routine during the week as normal as possible. If you want to spice up your regular meal plan, use Pinterest or Google to find healthy meals that incorporate new spices, vegetables or ingredients you don’t usually use. This will help you feel that you aren’t missing out on indulgent meals. Also continue your weekday workout routine whenever possible. Fit in your healthy habits during the week so you can treat yourself on the weekend! Ski Matters Page
Ski Matters Page ONLY EAT THE FOODS YOU LOVE This is a game of Rate your Food! Before filling your plate with everything in sight, take a moment to rate it on a scale of 1-10. Then, choose only those foods that you rated as favorites, in the 9 or 10 range. Healthy options, like fresh veggies, make the perfect way to balance out the other not-so-healthy food. AVOID GOING BACK FOR SECONDS The goal is moderation, folks! Going back for seconds is a slippery slope to overeating and regret. If you want a taste of everything, take small sample-sized portions to save yourself from overindulging. Remember, if your body is not familiar with fried, greasy food or a lot of alcohol, it is best to take it easy and avoid feeling sick or uncomfortable after the fact. SLEEP IS SACRED Get eight hours or more each night and your body will function better. Sleep affects so many areas of your body and mind, including weight gain and eating habits. Did you know that the more sleep deprived you are, the more hunger hormones your body creates? Getting enough sleep also will help you avoid sickness during the holiday months, because no one has time to be sick! KEEP STRESS LEVELS LOW Stress typically goes hand-in-hand with the holidays, but this year we challenge you to stay stress-free! This might mean adjusting your lifestyle and learning to say "no" when too many activities are stacking up. Whatever it means to you, go for it! Stress can increase cortisol levels which are directly related to weight gain, too. Less stress will help you stay healthier and in turn, you will keep the weight off! These simple strategies lay a foundation for a healthier holiday season and a happier one, too! Happy and healthy is the name of the game!
Ski Matters Page BRINGING HARMONY TO YOUR HOME: how to create a space you LOVE! Your home is a retreat to recharge your body and mind. Take a moment to assess how you feel when you’re there. Does it reflect the energy you desire? If not, that’s okay; these easy tips will turn your ho-hum home into a place with pizzazz! KNOW WHICH ROOMS MATTER TO YOU Where do you spend your time? Put your energy and resources into making your haven a heaven. Maybe you need a few more plush pillows or a cozy throw for your designated spot on the couch. Small touches can make big differences in how you regard your residence. LET YOUR HOME BRING YOU JOY Make a list of what you enjoy doing in your home. This should be easy to do. If not, then it’s time to make your home (and existence!) more joyful. Your list should be full of easy and relaxing activities like reading books, finding inspiring quotes to stencil in your bedroom, taking baths, baking in your sunny kitchen, etc. We got you started... keep going!
Ski Matters CLEAN AND ORGANIZE It may seem like a no-brainer, but the routine of organization is paramount to a peaceful pad. Cluttered or disorganized digs add to your daily stress. It’s not always easy to stay on top of it when you have a family, but take a few minutes each day to pick up and you’ll be amazed what it does for your psyche. Suddenly, you’re invincible and ready to tackle the rest of your to-dos. Seriously, the 10-minute tidy is a habit everyone in the family can practice. INVITE FRIENDS AND FAMILY Sharing your home with others for dinner parties, book clubs or even just to chat over coffee livens up your home’s energy. It is one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to pep up your place. Give it a go by hosting a holiday get-together. Besides, do not forget: you are worth it! TREAT YOURSELF Have you been eyeing a new, kitten-soft sweater or a sassy pair of kicks at the store or online? Purchasing something special for yourself is a great motivator to tune up your closet ... especially if you have been avoiding it for months. Sound like anyone you know? Set a goal, finish it, then treat yourself as a reward! Yes, adults can use incentives as motivation, too! CHANGE IS OKAY Have you made your home a happy place only to decide you would really adore a different coffee table, or you would like to switch up the colors in your bedroom? That’s uber-cool! Don’t waste time on guilt when the fact is the design and style of a home is fluid and should change over time based on your likes and dislikes. Don’t be married to what’s in your home if you don’t like it anymore. Just as we evolve, homes should, too! Page
