Semiconductors Market Brief - China - Monthly - August 2020 | September 2020 Overall market dynamics • The development of compound semiconductors (GaN and SiC) will be included in the new national semiconductor development plan. – In the next three years, with China’s new infrastructure plan, compound semiconductors will have a market growth rate of more than 40%, especially in new energy vehicles, 5G communications, data centers, and other fields to start large-scale applications. • Huawei officially announced that it will no longer produce Kirin chipset. At present, the 5nm chip in TSMC will be named kirin9000, which will be carried on Huawei’s Mate 40 smartphone and will be launched at the end of the year, with a total amount of approximately 10 million units. • Power semiconductor devices will be widely used in the construction of new infrastructure. Insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is the core device for energy conversion and transmission. Shanghai Huahong Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (HHGrace) has the first 12-inch power device foundry production line in China. • ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) launched mass production of 19nm DDR4/LPDDR4 now and will proceed with 17nm in 2021. The maximum capacity in its first phrase will be 70,000 pieces of wafer per month. • Yangtze Memory Technologies Co., Ltd. (YMTC) launched its own brand of SSD product and sold to the open market. Semiconductors Market Brief - China - Monthly - August 2020 | September 2020 TSMC is still the most important wafer partner for Chinese semiconductor design companies • According to the guidance of the Chinese government for the Figure 4: Worldwide foundry revenue from China's IC design market, 2019 whole IC industry, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the whole industry will exceed 20% by 2025. 0.7% 1.6% 4.3% • Because of the trade conflicts between China and the US and the 2.5% TSMC sanctions imposed by the US in recent years, China has made 2.4% SMIC great progress in the semiconductor design. However, the basic 5.6% Huali manufacturing technology and upstream equipment and 4.9% Huahong Semiconductor materials of semiconductors are still far behind the international 0.8% UMC Tier 1 level. CSMC GlobalFoundries • TSMC is still the main wafer supplier of Chinese semiconductor 60.6% 16.6% Wuhan Xinxin design companies. TSMC has a huge wafer share in the GTA(ASMC) semiconductor of Chinese market every year; more than 50% of Others the bulk wafer service revenue still comes from TSMC.
