Semester 1 Reports Teaching and learning in ACT public schools shifted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers have adapted to provide remote learning successfully and this has included their ability to assess against certain achievement standards within a modified curriculum. Schools are required to report on student progress against the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum, however for Semester 1 2020 these requirements will not include A-E reporting for years 1 - 6. The revised requirements recognise that learning and assessment hasn’t continued as normal throughout semester 1, in particular during the remote learning period. At Charles Conder the Report will be highly modified with less outcomes to be assessed and you will see achievement and progress in the areas of Personal and Social capability, English, Mathematics, Science and P.E. The report will include student strengths and areas to be developed. We understand that this may be limited information however, early in term 3 the week beginning of 27th July we will be inviting parents and carers to attend three way interviews to discuss children’s progress and review personalised goals. We will provide contact via seesaw the week before this. COVID Update Please find attached information regarding the continued easing of restrictions and advice provided to schools. We are looking forward in developing opportunities for certain events to occur in term 3. These will include; parent/teacher interviews, Monday morning assemblies, school incursions and planned camps for the senior students and hopefully run the Colour Explosion event towards the end of term 3. We will provide key updates on these occurrences as they get closer. Enrolling for 2021 We are busily receiving new enrolments for 2021 for preschool and kindergarten. We encourage any existing families that have children at this age to contact the front office or go to www.education.act.gov.au Coffee with the Principal I hosted the first coffee chat last Friday which was a great opportunity to hear experiences from your perspective and learn about how we make the school better together. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. Along with some insights into school life, we talked about a diverse range of things. ‘Coffee with the Principal’ for me is a wonderful way to start a Friday. Connecting with our parents and hearing their ideas and feedback is important to me and I’d encourage any parents who wish to attend a ‘Coffee with the Principal’ to register your interest by emailing info@conderps.act.edu.au
Parent Conduct We all have the right to be treated with fairness and dignity, to learn and work in a safe, respectful and supportive school environment that values diversity and is free from bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence. Children, young people, their families, school staff and the broader community can expect ACT public schools to be positive and engaging environments where young people feel connected, respected, achieve success and are fully engaged in their learning. We have a strong positive culture at Charles Conder whereby our Values of Respect, Diversity, Cooperation, Honesty and Support provide us with a language to deliver the P.B.L (Positive behaviour for Learning) expectations of Being a Safe, Respectful, Learner. There is no place at Charles Conder for any parent to raise concerns with other children regarding issues. It is paramount that all parents contact their child’s teacher or school principal about any issue or concern regarding their child’s welfare. I will not tolerate any anti-social parent conduct on school grounds during school hours of 8.30 – 3.30pm. We are fortunate at Charles Conder that we have terrific parent conduct and connected families nearly 100% of the time and we are grateful for the on-going support that families pro- vide. We look forward to continuing this dynamic into the coming months. School Banking The school banking will restart at the beginning of Term 3. Preschool Banking days are Tuesday’s and Friday’s. Primary school banking day is Friday’s Dollarmites Tokens and Contribution Payments We understand students have missed the opportunity to earn tokens during this period and schools have missed the opportunity to earn contribution payments for their school. We are currently working through options to address this and will be in touch with you and your school very shortly.

For registration information see the Brindabella Blues website https:// RE: Updated public transport timetables from 18 July 2020 From Saturday 18 July 2020, Transport Canberra will be updating timetables for bus services. These changes will help make public transport in Canberra easier to use by providing more services and increased frequency, to ensure that people have greater opportunity to spread out their travel across the day as we recover from COVID-19. Transport Canberra has worked closely with the school community and we are providing increased frequency and additional services for school students across Canberra. As a new timetable is being introduced, there will be minor changes for all students travelling to and from school on public transport across Canberra from the first day of Term 3, 2020 (Monday 20 July 2020). In most cases, this will mean that students will catch the same service from the same stop, but the times that services arrive and leave may change. All schools, parents and students can find out more about the specific chang- es by: checking the information packs for each school, which are online at www.transport.act.gov.au checking timetables for each route (including school specials), which are online at www.transport.act.gov.au calling 13 17 10.
