SCMS 2020-2021 Teacher of the year: Starting Monday, January 11th will start “Carl Ratliff Week” Please take a minute to thank him via email Carl.ratliff@cms.k12.nc.us Carl Ratliff began teaching Band at South Charlotte Middle School in August 1997. He received Bachelor of Music and Masters of Arts in Teaching Degrees from Winthrop University. The son of former teachers (Carl M. & Janice Ratliff) are grateful for the opportunity to teach music to young people! In addition to serving as a teacher mentor, he performs actively with several bands in the Carolinas as well as his church choir. Mr. Ratliff is very appreciative of the wonderful support he receives from his esteemed principal, Mrs. Bailes, an excellent administrative team, hardworking and supportive teachers and counselors, staff, and parents, incredible Fine Arts Network, and talented and caring students. He is proud of the accomplishments of many students as they were selected for honor bands (County, District & State), junior youth symphony orchestras, and honor jazz bands (Region & State) as well as the principal clarinetist of the Charlotte Symphony (Taylor Marino). Mr. Ratliff received “The Outstanding Jazz Educator Award” from the North Carolina Western Region Jazz Association 2017. After many years of teaching, Mr. Ratliff never regrets having to report to South Charlotte Middle School.
