ARCHDIOCESE OF GALVESTON-HOUSTON SAINT MICHAEL the ARCHANGEL CATHOLIC CHURCH OCTOBER 17, 2021 | TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 1801 SAGE ROAD, HOUSTON, TEXAS 77056 | (713) 621-4370 | STMICHAELCHURCH.NET
ST. M I C H A E L T H E AR C H AN G E L CATH OLIC CH U RCH Dear Parish Family, On this 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us; “…we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God…let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.” Indeed, we have received abundant grace through Jesus, our High Priest. He gives us everything that we need in His perfect time and through His perfect plan. We at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish are a blessed people! What we are called to do is to emulate Christ’s example of love to all whom we meet and to give thanks for all that we have. Pope Francis wrote, “True glory is the glory of love because that is the only kind that gives life to the world.” Therefore, let us pray that our love for God, our love for each other, and our love for our parish be perfect. Once again, I am pleased to publish our annual financial report for the 2020/2021 fiscal year. I thank those parishioners who continuously and most generously share their time, talent, and treasure for building the kingdom of God here at our local parish. As always, you may contact Mr. Bob Basye if your desire a hard copy of our annual parish financial report. Thanks to all who serve on our parish finance council for your assistance, support, and dedication. May God Bless You and Your Generosity! Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Wayne W. Wilkerson, Pastor PARISH FINANCIAL REPORT The annual St. Michael the Archangel Parish financial report is once again available in the parish office. Please contact the parish office if you would like a copy. The most recent report is for Fiscal Year 2020/2021. The archdiocesan fiscal year reporting is July 1 through June 30. Fiscal year 2020/2021 was again fraught with the inconsistencies of the pandemic; but St. Michael Parish stepped up to the plate and has allowed us to have an overall improvement in collections, as well as pay off significant debt. Additionally, Fr. Wayne's Thanksgiving Appeal to pay off our church debt resulted in our parish becoming debt-free from our bank loan. Finally, a very successful capital campaign spearheaded by parishioner Tom DeGeorgio allowed us to cover the $650,000.00 church re-roofing and repairs project. All in all, with Fr. Wayne's expertise and the parish staff holding expenses within budget, the year was very successful with many ministries opening back up, beginning with our own T W EN TY- NIN T H S U NDAY IN O RDIN ARY TIM E
ST. MIC HA EL T HE A RC HA NGEL C AT H OLI C CH UR CH Sunday liturgies complete with many attendees. Thanks to our pastor, parish staff, and our many volunteers for bringing some normalcy back to the parish in 2021. In fiscal 2020/2021, St. Michael the Archangel Parish received total revenues (including program fees, special donations, and the roof capital campaign) of $4.5 million with outlays of $2.5 million. This has allowed the parish to pay off the remaining $645,000 in bank debt and add to cash reserves. These reserves will cover the $1 million seller financed debt remaining from our land acquisitions of many years ago and the roof expenditures that will fall in fiscal 2021/2022. Our total capital renewal reserves, diocesan savings, operating account, and restricted donations balance is approximately $3 million. The Parish School also has come through the pandemic well. Thanks to Dr. Kathleen Cox and the school staff for their hard work and dedication. A surplus of school operations will allow for contributions to Capital Improvement Projects, School Savings, the Student Scholarship Endowment and the Teacher's Endowment Funds. Thanks to our parents and other school contributors. Lastly, and very importantly, St. Michael the Archangel Parish again handedly exceeded the DSF (Diocesan Services fund) goals that allows for charitable contributions to the many DSF programs which are so badly needed. Bravo! In closing, we thank Fr. Wayne, our staff, and the entire St. Michael the Archangel parish community for your charitable support, your volunteerism, your talent, and your time. Now we can once again enjoy spending time together celebrating our masses and our ministries May God bless you: St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us! For a copy of the annual financial report, please contact Mr. Bob Basye in the parish office. The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace! T WENTY-NINT H S UNDAY I N OR D I N ARY T I M E
