His songs combine the essence of early folk music with a dose of country grit. He has toured the U.S. and performed with Josh Ritter, Low Anthem, The Lumineers, Old 97’s, The Black Lillies. In 2015 his dream of playing Newport Folk Festival became a reality, where Bob Dylan went electric 50 years earlier. Blakeslee delivers his songs with the heart of a young, lyric scribbling troubadour, who knows because he’s tried it, can out sing a passing train. Why are these guys trying to bring back a dead and gone genre? To the pop-punk inspired quartet, the music style of head banging and body thrashing is just getting started. Founded in Orono, Maine the four members Zack Davis (Vocals/Guitar), Trevor Legassie (Lead guitar), Cam Stewart (Drums) and Brandon Poli (Bass), were ready to bring the attention back to the post-hardcore scene, but with their own Turner twist. 11

Best known for hypnagogic pop project, “Superorder”, Taillon departs from his usual sound palette and explores gothic dark ambience, witch house, downtempo trance, vaporwave, and 80s horror genres. Other Order’s debut digital EP “Deleted Worlds” was released in October 2017 and quickly gained traction in Portland noise scene. A full length LP, “Mixed Messages”, is planned for physical release mid-2018. VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ thealldoowsor as space JANAESOUND 3 : 0 0 - 3 : 3 0 p m @ T h e Firs t Ch urc h : 8 C our t St JanaeSound harnesses an unforgettable voice that is known to stir the soul. The powerhouse rock singer hails from St. Louis where she began cultivating her love for music at the tender age of 9 through the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Known for her laser focus and unshakeable drive, JanaeSound was unsurprisingly tapped to open for FloRida alongside hometown hero Allen Gates this past summer at the St. Charles Family Arena. Locally, JanaeSound has clocked over 30 shows since her debut performance in Portland at the 2nd Annual Soul Revue at Portland House of Music and Events (July 2017). Featured in Down East Magazine and seen in MaineToday, JanaeSound has zero plans of slowing down anytime soon. 12

It is a competition that nurtures a band with instruction and feedback on all the aspects of being a professional band, from songwriting and performance to marketing and audience development. Combining the classic sound of the Hammond Organ with dynamic electric guitar and infectious drums; Micromassé strives to bring instrumental music to new frontiers while maintaining a positive groove and a fun vibe. 13

Formed at the University of Maine in 2009 by four music students, Capture the Sun have released two full length albums. The bands most recent effort, Terra Ignota, is an all original conception album about the creation of a planet and the subsequent people’s and societies that inhabit it. VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ thaceealldoowors as sp OSHIMA BROTHERS 4:00-4:30pm @ the first church : 8 court St Oshima Brothers’ magnetic sibling sound and contagious joy result from a lifetime of making music together. Raised in a musical family in rural Maine, the brothers have honed a harmony-rich blend of contemporary folk and acoustic pop. On stage, Sean and Jamie create a surprisingly full sound with dynamic vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, octave bass, loops, and percussion. Their debut album, “Oshima Brothers,” released in 2016, is a collection of 11 original songs written by Sean, and arranged and recorded by Jamie. The brothers live in Maine but are often on the road performing, producing music videos, and dancing. 14

They are an international touring band who are very familiar with the music festival circuit. They have performed at festivals like The Boomtown Fair (UK), Burning Man (NV) , Disc Jam Music Festival (NY), Great North Music Festival (ME), FARM Fest (NJ), Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival (CAN), Evolve Festival (CAN), and dozens of other festivals in Canada, The US, and The UK. If you love a high energy, highly danceable, extremely engaging, flat out unforgettable show then look no further. Armies’ debut album was ranked as one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s “Top 15 Great Albums You Didn’t Hear in 2015” just three months following it’s release. Fusing pop, rock, blues, and electronic music with intricate and spell- binding male/female duet vocals, Armies’ live show is a high energy mix of club beats, poignant songwriting with nuances of the blues. VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ thaceealldoowors as sp JOHNNY CREMAINS 5:45-6:15pm @ American Legion Hall : 143 church st Johnny Cremains play like a lounge band from hell by mixing slow, heavy riffs with piano, sharp vocals, and dark imagery. Featuring current and former members of some of Portland, Maine’s most eclectic bands (The Horror, Whitcomb, Confusatron, Covered In Bees, Sylvia, Pretty Sad, AOK Suicide Forest, Sunrunner), they came together around Erik Winter’s dramatic piano compositions in 2009. With their first album completed in 2012 and 2nd release in 2015, their intense live performances showcase the band’s musical prowess, look for more from them in the years ahead. With the addition of the incredibly talented, Renee Coolbrith, into the line up, the evolution of the band continues at a great pace. 17
performing artists VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ the doowors as space all BUILDER OF THE HOUSE 6:00-6:30pm @ The First Church : 8 court St “[Builder of the House] are excellent avatars for the kind of hushed melodies we’ve all come to associate with the [indie folk] genre, but like a color-changing chameleon, they alter rapidly and authentically blend into more diverse and exotic material.” – The Big Takeover. Builder of the House is the folk pop duo of Rob Cimitile and Elliot Heeschen. The group’s debut album Ornaments, which came out in 2017, fuses diverse elements from many genres into their own unique blend of folk pop. Music aside, the group has made a name for themselves with their thought-provoking and creative music videos. VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ thaceealldoowors as sp KGFREEZE 6:15-6:45pm @ Crosby Center Main : 96 church St KGFREEZE is the solo project of Kyle Gervais. The line-up currently consists of Chris Gervais (Nice Life, Cool Tara), Nate Carll (Cosades) and Jason Engler. Born out of the need to not be trapped by genre or unanimous decisions, KGFREEZE deals in short, loud rock music at the moment, but have previously delved into R&B ballads about having a better falsetto as well as collaborations with artists all over the musical map. If we were to bring in a comparison to our favorite food - pizza - sometimes it’s a band, sometimes it’s the man, sometimes it’s extra cheesy with a whole lot of jam. Or ham. Usually ham. 18
performing artists VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ the doowors as space all KATIE MATZELL 6:30-7:00pm @ The Colonial Theatre : 163 High St Katie Matzell is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter from Portland, Maine, who released her debut EP at the start of 2018, about which The Deli Magazine said “Matzell’s voice, both effortless and simple, floats above a sea of washy keys and pocket grooves, calling comparisons to not only her influences of the past (Bonnie Raitt and Aretha Franklin), but to her contemporaries — Norah Jones and Emily King immediately come to mind.” You can find Katie playing live shows with her band in support of the EP around the Northeast and beyond this year. VIP PASS festival pass $7 @ thaceealldoowors as sp PRETTY SAD 7:00-7:30pm @ American Legion Hall : 143 church st Pretty Sad is a five piece indie rock act led by the songwriting duo of Renee Coolbrith and Dustin Saucier. The band features soaring vocal harmonies and melodies, driven by a wall of guitar sound and rounded out by a harp and horns! This unique band has quickly established themselves as one of the most promising up and coming artists in the Portland area. Despite being a relatively new band, their sound is the creation of seasoned veterans of the music scene, and it shows. Joining them on the night is the Brooklyn based Darkwing, who have been busy touring the nation and establishing themselves as one of the best live rock bands in the indie scene today, and Dustin Saucier’s “other” band, Cape Cannons, simply one of, if not the best bands in Portland today. 19

Formed in the summer of 2015, the members of the band were already good friends, playing in multiple other projects together around the greater Bangor area. Wait is influenced by many post rock, and indie pop bands, such as Explosions in the Sky, Pinback, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Pixies. Drawing her writing and performing influences from Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Sharon Jones, Kenya is not only relevant in what she says, but poignant in how she relays it. Leaning heavily on Soul, Hip Hop, Funk, and the seed of what makes a rock and roll artist, when Kenya sings, everyone in the room understands. 20

Since 1995, he has toured internationally, signed multiple recording and publishing deals and worked with artists ranging from David Bowie to De La Soul with his bands Rustic Overtones and AS FAST AS. Today he can be found touring on his 20th studio album “Relentlessly yours,”, working on album number 21, and playing across New England with his boutique Beatles celebration, Spencer and the Walrus. He is joined onstage by his friends and longtime bandmates Blythe Armitage, McCrae Hathaway and Andrew Hodgkins. Their smokey Americana, genuine and honest poetry, and instantly comfortable melodies, are garnering them new fans wherever they are heard. Shifting effortlessly from energetic swing to dreamy ballad, they’re as comforting as a campfire and as heart-shaken as a summer squall. GoldenOak released their debut album “Pleasant St.” in January of 2016, The success of Pleasant St. and the following tour gained GoldenOak a nomination as “one of Portland’s most important upcoming bands” by Dispatch Magazine. MYRO: Maine Youth Rock Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) organization, redefines music education for students of all backgrounds and demographics through collaboration with national artists, creating transformational experiences. Students who participate in MYRO ensembles are able to express their individuality through a classical skill set, while performing concerts with nationally-recognized artists that reinforce their love for alternative genres from classical. MYRO participants currently reside in southern and central Maine, representing at least 17 schools and 10 districts. Rehearsing once a week, MYRO brings together a community of individuals that share their love for all genres of music and the passion to perform in concerts, demonstrating what it is like to be a rock star orchestral musician at an early age. 23

In 2014, Violette was the recipient of the New England Music Awards “Hip Hop Act of the Year” and her most recent album (Produced by God.Damn.Chan) “UltraViolette” was released on July 4th, 2017 with great reception.
