Shawn’s Message Blessed Most Holy Trinity! Understanding the Trinity can be complex, but a rewarding one for our faith. Believe it or not, the Trinity is one of my favorite courses at the seminary. This course required a lot of reading on various theologians’ thoughts on the Trinity. One of them came to mind and his name is Richard of St. Victor, a Medieval Scottish philosopher and theologian, and one of the most influential religious thinkers during the Medieval times. He was a prior of the famous Augustinian Abbey of Saint Victor in Paris from 1162 until his death in 1173. He wrote the “De Trinitate” during the time he was a prior. He recognized the works of the Trinity when he was communicating with other monks in sign language during a meal in the Abbey. Reading that impacted me as I realized that sign language has allowed
the monks to build up a community of love. The more as discussing the Trinity is so fascinating! Trinity is a communion of love that consists of three Happy Trinity! divine persons, God, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in one Godhead. Comparisons are useful in our futile attempt to explain the Trinity; it is though our Faith that we accept this mystery. After several times reading the following reflection from Living Liturgy, The Most Holy Trinity 2022, I thought others might find it interesting and useful. “Theology developed a word to describe the dynamic relationship between the Persons of the Trinity and the community of believers - perichoresis, or “dance.” In this metaphorical language, the Trinity is a partnership of encircling and embracing, a graceful movement of loving attentiveness into which we are invited as partners who must, in our turn, draw others into the dance by our loving outreach to them. With the imagery of the dance, we cannot think of God as solitary.” From the time we were baptized “in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit” and with every sign of the cross we make in our daily lives we are reminded the Blessed Trinity is with us. We appreciate the response to the parent survey: the returned surveys will be useful in planning next year’s program. If you didn’t receive the survey information, please contact the Parish Office.
