Volume 2 Issue 10 June 8, 2021 From the Office of the President Dear Friends, Most, if not all, of the seasonal residents have returned home. They will be greatly missed, but we look forward to their arrival next winter. Now, we settle down for a Florida Summer. As many of you know, I will be stepping down from the Presidency on June 30, 2021, which is a year sooner than planned. I have enjoyed my five years of service and ministry as the President of Wesleyan Village. My support for the Wesleyan Village will continue unabated. Connie and I have made so many new friends, and we have reconnected with friends from past years. I have been blessed to work with wonderful staff members and good board members. So many of you have blessed and enriched our lives, and I trust Connie and I have blessed and enriched your lives. The Wesleyan Village is a great place to live. I said that from day one as your new President in July 2016, and I echo that same sentiment as I leave. “The Wesleyan Village is a great place to live.” Connie and I have a peace and believe that God is directing our lives at this time, TO GOD BE THE GLORY. BE SAFE May God bless and keep you. Don Maness, President Joshua: 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” June Update 4

WESLEYAN VILLAGE EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES The following procedures will be used in case of emergencies, such as hurricane or other severe weather situations. I. MANDATORY EVACUATION A. All mobile units, RV’s, and prefab units are to evacuate to shelters. B. In the case of a mandatory evacuation notice issued for ALL residents by local authorities, follow the directions given by the authorities on TV or radio regarding evacuation procedures and the route you are to take. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS FROM THE BROOKSVILLE WESLEYAN CHURCH HURRICANE SHELTER ANNOUNCEMENT Hurricane season (June-November) is near and it is time to review your personal plans and preparations in advance of any major storms forecasted to impact our area. BROOKSVILLE WESLEYAN CHURCH IS AVAILABLE ONLY AS A VOLUNTARY SHELTER OF LAST RESORT. Please note the following important details. 1. It is vitally important that you pay attention to and heed all official storm advisories and warnings. Evacuate if ordered by local authorities and think now about where you would go for safer shelter. See the list below of Red Cross approved storm shelters in Hernando County. If your home is not secure, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEEK SHELTER IN A LOCATION THAT IS EQUIPPED TO PROVIDE FULL EMERGENCY SERVICES — including power, medical assistance, law enforcement security, water, food, and sanitation. As a Christ-follower, make it an opportunity to help, encourage, pray for, and witness to others. 2. Brooksville Wesleyan is not a Red Cross approved storm shelter for mass care. However, for church members, friends and neighbors without safer alternatives for shelter, our church doors will open as a voluntary emergency shelter. We will not be equipped with pre-positioned water, food, medical supplies, or other long-term emergency resources. Our building, however, is rated for high wind loads, making it safer than a mobile home, RV, or vulnerable residence. Accommodations will be in the church sanctuary and music room areas. Those who come STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK and we want you to be aware of limitations and concerns such as: • With coronavirus pandemic concerns, social distancing will be difficult to maintain over an extended period. No accommodations are available for isolating or treating persons who may be or become ill. Therefore, shelter cannot be provided for anyone with a fever or other common symptoms of possible infection or who know they were recently exposed to potential infection. • You must park vehicles and use the glass entry doors on the north/Wesleyan Village side of the building only. No parking in the front parking lot nearest Cortez or on the west/music room side of the building to keep these areas clear for emergency vehicles. For security purposes, no building access will be allowed through the metal doors on the north, south or west sides of the building. • We have limited emergency generator capacity and it will be used primarily for security lighting for safe occupancy of indoor areas in the event of electric utility outages. Loss of utilities will make building air conditioning impossible. Emergency refrigeration will be available only for storage of life-saving medications, such as insulin. • We cannot guarantee power for emergency medical equipment (oxygen machines, CPAP, personal mobility devices, etc.). • We cannot guarantee the services of emergency medical personnel on-site during the storm or its aftermath. • Long-term power outage of more than six hours or serious flooding in our area could create sanitation system issues for our building since we are connected to a private 4|Page
sewer system reliant on its own auxiliary power for pumps. Portable toilets will be available in such an event. • We have no food storage or preparation facilities in the building. You should plan to bring your own supply of bottled water and non-perishable foods. • Small pets must be kept in pet carriers or cages and must remain in designated tiled areas at all times. No exceptions. • No unauthorized weapons of any kind are allowed on church premises (guns, knives, mace/pepper spray, etc.). Licensed concealed carry personnel must leave weapons at home or secured and locked in their vehicle if parked at the church. • The church assumes no responsibility for the loss or theft of cash or valuables brought on the premises by those seeking shelter. A safe room is available, but checked items may be stored there only at your own risk. • The church will have on hand a limited number of battery-powered and hand-crank radios for emergency information use. • After the storm, you should rely on word from law enforcement or emergency management officials regarding when it is safe to travel about the community and return home. Remember the danger of downed power lines, flooded roads and streets, and dangerous trees and limbs. 3. If you do seek temporary shelter in the church building, think about bringing: • Essential medications and first aid items (we cannot guarantee refrigeration for insulin or other medications) • Telephone (fully charged and with your power cord) • Non-perishable food (enough for several days) • Water (one gallon per person per day) • Bedding (blankets, pillows, exercise pad, air mattress) • Flashlight and batteries • Entertainment (games, books, iPad, music player with earphones, etc.) • Toiletries, hygiene items, moisture wipes, dry shampoo • Personal ID, cash, essential papers you need to keep with you 4. After the storm passes, we will be available to serve as a storm recovery and aid distribution location or as a back-up site to handle overflow from local approved shelters struggling to accommodate storm evacuees as requested by local emergency management authorities. ---------- Brooksville Wesleyan Church Meeting Location: 22319 Cortez Blvd. Mail/Office: 22398 Pasture Lane Brooksville, FL 34601 Office Phone: 352-799-3066 www.bwcflorida.com APPROVED EMERGENCY SHELTERS 5|Page
