History of cable-laying machine KV-1! Since the introduction of our cable-laying machine KV-1 in 2011 we sold over 100 pieces all over Eu- rope and got only very positive feedback from the users. With this writing we want to explain the advantages of the KV-1. Many of the cable-laying machines on the market did not fulfill our expectations and requirements in laying cable for robotic lawn mowers. So we decided in June 2010 to develop an own machine. At that time we sold and installed already more than 100 robotic lawn mowers per year. Based on our experiences we created a demand profile as follows: • Draft-free cable laying, stepless variable up to 5cm depth • Stepless variable laying speed with an end speed as fast as possible • Soft start at driving forward and backward in working mode • Easy laying also on stony ground • Cable laying in tightest radii • Low volume at working to make use of the whole day length (and to work on Sundays and hol- idays without noise annoyance) • Full-time working with one battery charge per day • Simple and fast changing of cutting tools • Quick and easy transport loading forward and backward • Possibility to build-up a big cable spool • Laying of all cables of various robotic lawn mower producers (up to 4,4mm Ø) • Compact and robust design, high lifetime Our partner, company „Stollberger drive engineering”, produces machines with battery drive since 20 years. So it was obvious to create a machine with battery drive. A gas-operated machine dropped out immediately because of the high noise exposure. After many experiments and technical discussions with our skilled workers and other dealers we were able to deliver the first KV-1 after 8 months of de- velopment. The first presentation of the machine was in Eisenach (Germany) in 2011 and the interest was enor- mous. A partner from Switzerland presented the machine at the fair “öga” in Oeschberg (Switzerland) in 2012 and got an innovation price. At the fair “demopark + demogolf” in Eisenach 2013 our machine has been medalled from the expert panel with the silver medal for technical innovation 2013.
Advantages of the variable weight of our KV‐1 (92kg own weight + 20kg additional load) There are 3 characteristics a good cable‐laying machine needs to lay the cable draft‐free: • a delayed start‐up • a stepless variable laying speed • a variable weight Advantages of the variable weight: • you can lay the cable also in compressed undergrounds (dry and clay‐containing soil, stony underground, old sessile grounds) • extremely robust frame construction means a high lifetime • directional stability for working with less fatigue • quiet and vibration‐free run • very high laying speed Please note: There are ramps available for an easy transport Graz, am 24.07.2014 Seite 1 von 2
KV‐1 examples of use with and without additional load because of different soil conditions Case 1: You are laying at an old sessile lawn with different kinds of gras (f.e. dondelion, shamrock). The ground is compressed and possibly even hard, when it’s dry. In this case the KV‐1 with additional load is employed. Case 2: In new gardens the soil material is mixed because of excavations and refurbishments, so the underground is loamy and sandy. Grit and stones are building the fundament of the above applied humus. In this case the subsidence of the laid cable is different and could amount 2‐5cm in the first 2 years alone. When the cable is being pulled too much, there can be cable fissures already in this period. This causes unpleasant extra work. In this case the additional load has to be removed to make the machine lighter (to leave no marks). Case 3: If there is a turf laid, the cable is usually being fixed on the finished grade with hooks and after that the turf is being laid. If the cable should be laid deeper in the ground for a certain reason, it could be worked with the KV‐1 incl. additional load on the compressed ground. Case 4: The turf is still laid and is not yet strongly rooted with the underground. In this case the cable will be laid without additional load to cause no damages and to leave no marks at the new lawn. Because of the delayed start‐up, the stepless variable laying speed and the possible weight modification you will leave almost no marks from the use of the KV‐1! Graz, am 24.07.2014 Seite 2 von 2
