Registration Package The World’s Largest Truck Convoy is an international, one-day celebration of the trucking industry to raise funds for, and showcase an awareness of, the support of the trucking industry to the athletes of Special Olympics. Truckers throughout North America have joined together to raise awareness and funds for Spe- cial Olympics athletes and change attitudes toward people with intellectual disabilities. THIS IS A FUNDRAISING EVENT AND DRIVERS ARE ASKED TO COLLECT PLEDGES TO HELP SUPPORT ATHLETES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. INCENTIVE PRIZES WILL BE AVAILABLE AS WELL AS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE LEAD TRUCK FOR THE MOST PLEDGES. PLEASE JOIN US IN MAKING THIS CONVOY ABOUT THE ATHLETES, HELP US RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS! In 2016, Nova Scotia made history with the largest convoy for Special Olympics in Atlantic Canada – 152 trucks and nearly $69,000 raised. That’s when they discovered that when truckers get together, amazing things can happen! In partnership with the PEI Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee (LETR), professional drivers, escorts, and motorcycle outriders will meet at the staging location and be escorted in a convoy through the scenic National Park from Brackley to Dalvay, where they will welcomed by the Special Olympics community – athletes, families, friends, colleagues, law enforcement officers, and the organizations, companies and agencies that make up and support the trucking industry. A celebration including a barbeque and awards will be held following the trip to recognize participating truckers and supporters of the trucking industry.
About Special Olympics PEI & Law Enforcement Torch Run About Special Olympics PEI—Enriching Lives through Sport Special Olympics provides direct sport opportunities for athletes with an intellectual disability. The athlete is all-important in Special Olympics. Special Olympics uses the medium of sport to assist persons with an intellectual disability to become all that they can be - physically, mentally, socially, emotionally - and to be- come accepted, respected and productive members of society. Our goal is to provide sport opportunity to every individual with an intellectual disability across PEI. We do not exclude any potential athlete because of financial constraint. About Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, more than 97,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and cele- bration of diversity uniting communities around the globe. Over the years the Torch Run has evolved and now encompasses a variety of innovative fundraising platforms to include, Truck Convoys, Polar Plunges and more. Since inception, LETR has raised more than half a billion dollars and changed millions of attitudes worldwide.
About the Truck Convoy What’s the Story Behind the Convoy? Norm Schneiderhan, a Corporal with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, was deeply inspired by the powerful impact that Special Olympics had on his life through his participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run®. His family is deeply involved with the trucking industry, so he created the Truck Convoy, a one- day celebration of the trucking industry, to help raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Since then, the convoy has spread far beyond Florida. This international movement now incorporates over 12,000 trucks and athletes in 24 states and 5 provinces.
