It’s easy to fall in love with the Ram 1500. This truck is good-looking, offers high-end capability, and provides access to a modernized cabin. Choosing the exact Ram 1500 you want is a little trickier, though, since the truck comes in various trims and with various performance setups. You’ll understand the full scope of this truck’s capabilities after reading our eBook: Buyer’s Guide to the Ram 1500. We take a deep dive into each aspect of the Ram. That way, when it comes time for a test drive, you’ll know exactly what to expect from this heralded full-size truck! TOWING, PAYLOAD, AND PERFORMANCE At its core, the Ram 1500 is a truck that’s ready and eager to work. The towing and payload capabilities are immense, the engine lineup includes five unique power plants, and a host of modern technologies helps improve the truck’s efficiency, capability, and aerodynamics. Maximum Towing and Payload Picking the engine is going to influence the towing and payload figures your Ram 1500 can offer. If you’re going for all-out capability, you’ll be impressed by the results. The maximum towing capacity reaches 12,750 pounds when properly equipped. As for payload, when properly equipped, you can haul as much as 2,300 pounds. Part of the reason the Ram 1500 is able to reach such high-end capacities is the truck’s steel frame. To improve durability and overall stiffness, the frame is composed of 98% high-strength steel! 2
Picking Your Engine To help you enjoy the exact type of truck you want, the Ram 1500 offers five engine options to choose from. A TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission is mated to each one. With technologies such as an eTorque Mild Hybrid system, the gear changes of this transmission walk a fine line between being smooth and efficient and offering a sense of driver involvement behind the wheel. 5.7L HEMI ® V8 with or without eTorque So, while the Ram 1500 offers five engines, that includes the 5.7L HEMI® V8 that comes in two different variations. You can enjoy this burly engine with or without Ram’s unique eTorque technology. eTorque is essentially a mild hybrid system that meshes performance-enhancing capability with efficiency. By including the eTorque system, the 5.7L HEMI® is able to produce 395 horsepower, 410 lb-ft of torque, and reach the truck’s maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds. Without the infusion of eTorque technology, the horsepower and torque outputs remain the same while towing drops slightly to a still-respectable 11,610 pounds. Other variables will influence fuel economy, yet you can expect the HEMI® V8 to return somewhere around an EPA-estimated 15 city/22 highway MPG. 3.6L Pentastar ® V6 Also utilizing eTorque technology, the 3.6L V6 engine is a fine choice for your Ram 1500. This motor pumps out 305 horsepower, 269 lb-ft of torque, and can reach 7,730 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped. It also delivers exceptional fuel economy, measuring an EPA-estimated 20 city MPG/25 highway MPG. 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 If you’re one of many clamoring for a diesel truck, the Ram 1500 gives you the option of the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Rated at 480 lb-ft of torque and 260 horsepower, this diesel engine will enable you to tow as much as 12,560 pounds! 3
Supercharged 6.2L HEMI ® V8 Finally we come to the performance-focused Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine. If you want to romp around in your truck, having as much fun as you possibly can, this is the engine to get. Horsepower is rated at 702! Torque checks in at 650 lb-ft. So, what does that all mean? Well, your Ram 1500 will hit 60 MPH from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds—and the top speed is a sizzling 118 MPH! Other Important Performance Parts To help improve the efficiency of your truck as well as how it feels and drives around town and on the highway, Ram has developed some rather nifty performance technologies for the 1500. Take the Active Air Dam as an example. When the truck is coming up on 30 MPH, this Active Air Dam automatically lowers to help reduce drag. The shape of the truck serves a purpose, too. The hood deflects air from the wiper area, while the roof guides the air current toward the rear spoiler. Plus, if you choose the available Active-Level™ Four-Corner Air Suspension System, the truck can lower to maximize efficiency, help you attach a trailer, or even provide access to the bed. MULTIFUNCTION TAILGATE The multifunction tailgate of the Ram 1500 deserves its own section because Ram has really gone all out to deliver practicality and versatility. The first thing you’ll notice if you opt for the multifunction tailgate is its 60/40 split swing-away doors. These doors help with accessing the bed since you won’t need to reach over a traditional tailgate. For further assistance, there’s a helpful center bed step. This multifunction tailgate is tough, too. You can store up to 2,000 pounds on the tailgate with ease. And for further capabilities, there’s the RamBox® Cargo Management System featuring: • 115-volt auxiliary outlet • Weatherproof, lockable, illuminated, and drainable storage bins on each side of the bed DRIVER-ASSISTANCE SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES The Ram 1500 is a full-size truck, so when you’re driving it on congested roadways or at hectic worksites, it helps to have technologies looking out for you. The list of safety technologies and driver-assistance features in the Ram 1500 will make your life easier. If you have a trailer attached, you’ll appreciate Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path and Trailer Detection. Essentially, your truck will alert you if another vehicle is driving in your blind spot. This alert will extend even to vehicles driving near the very back of the trailer. 4
There’s also smart braking technology that will automatically intervene if a front-facing collision appears imminent. Plus, with guided parking, you can nestle into a perpendicular or parallel parking spot in semi-autonomous fashion. The system will direct you when to brake and accelerate while it controls the steering for you! Other safety features that can be had in your Ram 1500 include: • LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist • 360° Surround View Camera • Hill Start Assist • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go IN-CABIN TECHNOLOGIES The stunning cabin of the Ram 1500 is easy to fall in love with. Ram knows that after a long workday, you want an easy-to-use and enjoyable interior space to lounge in. To help accommodate you, there’s an available 12-inch touchscreen display running on Uconnect® software that will easily connect to your smartphone thanks to Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. These systems work in unison so you can enjoy your favorite music, send and receive text messages or phone calls, quickly pull up navigational directions, and more. That music will sound particularly crisp if you choose to include the 19-speaker Harman Kardon® premium audio system. Information about your truck can be found on the full-color, 3D graphics of the 7-inch Driver Information Display Digital Cluster behind the steering wheel. The rest of the impressive in-cabin features you can expect include: • Active Noise Cancellation • Up to 4 USB ports • Available dual-pane panoramic sunroof 5
