Choosing my Second Major/Minors?
You choose your Second Major or Minors at the start of your second year.

You can select a second major, comprising of 8 units or two minors (4 units each). The units of your
complementary studies can deepen your knowledge by studying in a field that extends the understanding
of your major, or you can explore other fields by choosing a university wide minor.

You can choose from a range of second majors and minors within the Urban Development disciplines as
long as the second major or minor is not the same discipline as your study area A for example:

Construction Management and Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering students can choose:
• Urban and Regional Planning Second Major • Property Second Major
• Urban and Regional Planning Studies Minor • Property Development Minor
• Property Investment and Finance Minor • Property Valuation Minor

Urban and Regional Planning students can choose:
• Urban Development Construction Second Major • Property Second Major
• Residential Construction Minor • Administration in Construction Minor
• Building Economics Minor • Property Development Minor
• Property Investment and Finance Minor • Property Valuation Minor

                                     Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours)
                                     UD01
Or you can select from a range of secondary study areas from other complementary disciplines including:
• Accountancy Second Major • Applied Economics and Finance Second Major
• Architectural Studies • Language Minors – University wide options
• University Wide Minor Options

Note:
A Major is also referred to as Study Area A
Second Major/Minor is also referred to as Study Area B/Complementary studies/Secondary studies

Work Integrated Learning and Placement (work experience)
   • Work Integrated Learning (WIL) provides student with an opportunity to build professional
experience, make industry contacts and develop an understanding of workplace culture. Our
students gain a valuable 'real world' experience through internships with industry partners.
   • WIL allows you to graduate with a portfolio of professional skills that provides evidence of your
     professional competencies.
   • If you do a major in either Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering
you are required to undertake a minimum of 80 days of approved work placement.
   • If you do a major in Urban and Regional Planning you are required to undertake a minimum of 14
days of approved work placement, per WIL unit within a minimum 10 week period.
   • Your WIL unit should be completed in your third year of study, however, you may commence your
work placement once you have completed 96 credit points if you are able to do so.

Go Global
QUT offers you a wide-range of opportunities to study overseas during your degree program. These
experiences will enhance your studies and enable you to gain first-hand experiences while deepening your
understanding of other cultures. These real world experiences will help prepare you as a graduate and
open the doors to opportunities you may never have thought of:
   • Semester exchange - study and live in another part of the world for a semester
   • Short term programs – short term programs available during semester breaks
   • Other programs including study tours, work integrated learning (WIL) and research.
