For many of you this weekend is a pivotal moment in your sporting life to affirm your desire to be the best cyclist you can be. Times are very different now and many of you have already experienced the challenges that modern day sport presents us to provide opportunities like the Queensland Junior Road Cycling Championships for you to compete in. You are here not only through your own talent but more importantly you are here through your own dedication, your own resilience, and your commitment to achieve your best at the highest level available. In 2020 Bundaberg Cycling Club was prepared for the delivery of the championships but as you are mostly aware we could not deliver in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty and unpredictability it has bought along with it. Covid-19 has changed the way in which sporting clubs, state and national sporting organisations and international sporting organisations have to plan and prepare for events in current times. We as a club are proud to be able to present to you the 2021 Queensland Junior Road Cycling Championships and would like to acknowledge Auscycling Queensland and its staff who we have been working closely with since last year to bring you this event. There has been a lot of communication back and forth as every challenge and hurdle has presented itself and it is important to recognise the work that Auscycling Queensland has contributed to help us bring you these championships. In closing a special mention to the parents and supporters of the cyclists competing this weekend. We recognise your dedication and support of your children and thank you for supporting your child to compete with us this weekend. We hope that you also enjoy your time watching the racing and get the opportunity to enjoy some time together in this beautiful part of Australia. ACCOMMODATION Bundaberg has a variety of accommodation available to you regardless of your preference. There is an abundance of caravan parks, motel’s, hotel’s, bed and breakfast and resort style accommodations. If you are coming purely for the racing, we would recommend sourcing accommodation in Bundaberg itself. You have the convenience of all the supermarkets, restaurants, and general amenities. From Bundaberg you will have some racing within the township and for the races that are out on the country roads you will be around half an hour drive to them, so it is very convenient to the racing. If you are looking for a little more of an opportunity to relax in between all the racing and have a bit of a getaway while you’re at it there are some beautiful coastal towns available. Approximately 20/25 minutes out of town you have the beautiful coastal towns of Moore Park Beach, Burnett Heads, Bargara, Innes Park/Coral Cove and Elliott Heads. All these townships are worth looking in to with an abundance of caravan parks, bed and breakfast, motels, hotels. In Bargara you will have some resort style accommodation options available to you as well as supermarkets and a good array of restaurants. OTHER ACTIVITIES While you are here you might get the opportunity to enjoy some tourist activities or to have an extended break, I would like to suggest some of the following activities: • Mon Repos Turtle sanctuary. • Bundaberg Rum factory. • Bundaberg Ginger Beer factory. • Foreshore cycle/walk path from Burnett Heads to Bundaberg. • Moncreiff Theatre has regular performances. • Hinkler Aviation Centre and Museum and Bundaberg Botanical Gardens. • Splitters Farm. • SSS Strawberry farm. • Tinaberries (Ice Cream is maybe the best ice cream in the world) . • Lady Musgrave Whale watching.
