3 A library tailored for our residents One of the first things my mom did when we moved to Côte Saint-Luc was take me to the opening of the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library on the second floor of the Côte Saint-Luc Shopping Centre. It was 1966 and I was five years old. I was greeted by a very young, pretty, friendly and enthusiastic Eleanor London. She helped me pick books and then let me stamp them out at the checkout desk. How exciting afternoon storytime was! Eleanor told the stories so well! The library is in a spacious location adjacent to City Hall, where Library Director Janine West oversees a talented staff. Over the years, we have evolved beyond just a place to take out books. It is a home away from home where people feel safe, at peace and happy. Students in the com- munity come here to study in groups. There are computers to use, Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs and books including eBooks to borrow, and a wide array of newspapers and magazines to read. We engage in programming for people of all ages, including theatre, concerts, book clubs, lectures, movies, art exhibits and more. And finally, this fall we are very excited to launch our CreateSpace. This creation space is filled with materials, technology and various equipment that will help you cre- ate whatever you can imagine. This program guide highlights the true diversity of our library and culture programming. Please keep it as a resource and consider participating and registering in the programs that interest you the most. We always welcome your feedback.
