Preparing Your Heart for Worship July 11, 2021 I sometimes think that Matthew chapter 6 is one of the most uncomfortable chapters to read in the entire Scriptures. It probes and examines and holds a mirror up before us, and it will not allow us to escape. There is no chapter which is more calculated to promote self-humbling and humiliation than this particular one. But thank God for it. –Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 6 JULY 11, 2021 SERMON TEXT Matthew 6:1-4 & 19-24 1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. continued on the next page
7 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH JULY 11, 2021 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You can not serve God and money. Leader: This is the word of the LORD. People: Thanks be to God.
COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 8 JULY 11, 2021 SERMON: “Digging For Your Buried Treasures” Rev. Lanier Wood Matthew 6:1-4 & 19-24
9 JULY 11, 2021 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH THE LORD’S SUPPER AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father, Almighty; maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10 JULY 11, 2021 PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND WORDS OF INSTITUTION Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my savior. Amen. Prayer of Humble Access I do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in my own goodness, but only in your righteousness credited to me. I am not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose manner is always to show mercy. Grant me, therefore, O Lord, the grace to commune now with Christ by faith, that I may evermore live with him and he in me. Amen.
11 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH JULY 11, 2021 COMMUNION MUSIC “Speak, O Lord” Speak, O Lord, as we come to You To receive the food of Your Holy Word. Take Your truth, plant it deep in us; Shape and fashion us in Your likeness, That the light of Christ might be seen today In our acts of love and our deeds of faith. Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us All Your purposes for Your glory. Teach us, Lord, full obedience, Holy reverence, true humility; Test our thoughts and our attitudes In the radiance of Your purity. Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see Your majestic love and authority. Words of pow’r that can never fail— Let their truth prevail over unbelief. Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds; Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us— Truths unchanged from the dawn of time That will echo down through eternity. And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises, And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us. Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built And the earth is filled with Your glory.
COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 12 JULY 11, 2021 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
13 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH JULY 11, 2021 CLOSING HYMN “There is a Fountain” Trinity Hymnal # 253 There is a fountain filled with blood, Drawn from Immanuel’s veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day; And there have I, as vile as he, Washed all my sins away: Washed all my sins away, Washed all my sins away; And there have I, as vile as he, Washed all my sins away. E’er since by faith I saw the stream Your flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die: And shall be till I die, And shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die.
COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 14 JULY 11, 2021 Dear dying Lamb, Your precious blood Shall never lose its pow’r, Till all the ransomed church of God Be saved to sin no more: Be saved to sin no more, Be saved to sin no more; Till all the ransomed church of God Be saved to sin no more. BENEDICTION
