MISSION STATEMENT The mission of The Pinecrest Lakes Academy PreK4 Program is to provide a challenging curriculum where academic excellence, character development and individual growth are nurtured in a safe learning environment that involves the active participation of students, teachers, parents and community members. SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY Our school is a place where children will enjoy learning, teachers enjoy teaching, and parents will be expected to be a key part of the educational process. Our Beliefs: • Student learning and social development are the primary focus of our school. • Students learn in a variety of ways and should be given the opportunity to learn with different strategies and techniques. • Administrators, teachers, staff, parents and community members agree to hold high expectations and standards in order for students to achieve success. • Parents and teachers are partners in the education process. • Our school community is committed in enabling our students to become life long learners. SCHOOL HOURS 8:30 am – 3:00 pm Before and After School Care is available. Please ask for more information at the main office. Students who arrive before 8:00 am will be sent to the Before School Program. Parents will be responsible for the $1.00 per minute service charge for students not previously enrolled. Students will remain with a faculty member 15 minutes after dismissal. Students who are not picked up 15 minutes after dismissal will be sent to aftercare and issued a late charge of $1.00 per minute. ARRIVAL PROCEDURES • Pre-K parents will be allowed to park in designated spaces and walk their child to class or the pre-k child can also be dropped off and an older sibling escort them to class. 2
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES • Each student will need to be signed out in the front office in order to be dismissed. • Parents/guardians or anyone picking up a PreK student must bring their PreK badge with them to pick up students. This is the only way they will be given access into the building. • All PreK parents and family members must enter through the front office in order to access the PreK classroom. • No student will be dismissed from PreK without being signed out in the office. • If a staff member does not recognize the family member picking up the child, they will ask for an ID and will check the emergency contact authorized person’s list for the child. BEFORE AND AFTER CARE Pinecrest Lakes Academy has established before and after school care services to be available on campus. It is the parents’/guardians’ responsibility to contract and pay for such services at their option and discretion. Please contact the school office for detailed information on how to register for the before and after school care program at our school. Fees for before and aftercare are paid online through the school store on the school website. Morning Care Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. After Care Hours: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. TUITION PAYMENTS AND SCHEDULE All PreK4 parents will receive a schedule for payments. Monthly tuition is $600. Before and aftercare is offered at an additional cost of $100/month. Failure to pay on time will result in a $20 late fee. No exceptions. Three late payments will result in student withdrawal from the PreK4 program at Pinecrest Lakes Academy. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES All parents wishing to volunteer must participate in the School Volunteer Registration Program and must obtain clearance from Concierge Pad though our school website before permission to volunteer is granted. This mandate includes clearance for volunteers in school events such as book fairs, fundraising activities, etc. Any parent/guardian who would like to volunteer in the classroom must inform the classroom teacher at least one day prior to volunteering. Parents are not allowed to bring another child to school when volunteering, even if the child is in a stroller. In addition, parents/visitors must sign-in at the main office and obtain a visitor’s pass. In order to ensure the safety of all of our students, NO PARENTS/VISITORS WILL BE ALLOWED BEYOND THE MAIN OFFICE WITHOUT A VISITOR’S PASS. NO EXCEPTIONS. 3
UNIFORM Uniforms tops are mandatory and are to be purchased exclusively at the following location: All Uniform Wear 1563 Florida Mall Ave Orlando, FL 32809 Our uniform policy is as follows: • Girls: Red, Yellow, and Royal blue polo shirt with school logo embroidered Royal blue polo plaid dress from uniform store with logo embroidered Khaki or navy shorts, skort, or pants Black and/or white sneakers • Boys: Red, Yellow, and Royal blue polo shirt with school logo embroidered Khaki or navy shorts or pants Black and/or white sneakers • Cold Weather Uniforms: Matching red, yellow, white, royal, and navy-blue long sleeve shirts can be worn under their polos Navy sweatshirt with school logo Navy fleece jacket with logo Girls may wear navy or white leggings or tights underneath their skorts/shorts * School Spirit Shirts must be purchased for field trips and special events. They can be worn ONLY on Fridays with the uniform bottoms or jeans. Jean Day participation can be paid for online at the school store on our school website. Please label all belongings (clothes, lunch boxes, etc.) ITEMS NOT PERMITTED IN SCHOOL Students are not permitted to bring toys or electronic devices from home into the classroom. STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT Each parent must take an active role in supporting this plan. At Pinecrest Lakes Academy, we want our children to learn to be responsible citizens. It is in the 4
children’s best interest that parents and staff work together to ensure a happy, safe, and productive learning experience. As a Lake County Public Charter School, Pinecrest Lakes Academy abides by the Lake County Code of Student Conduct. The Code of Student Conduct is a district- wide plan that clearly outlines student expectations. Proper behavior is recognized while corrective strategies and consequences are given for violations of the code. Pinecrest Lakes Academy will utilize incident reports to document when a student has misbehaved. Once a student receives three incident reports due to misconduct, they may be removed from attending the PreK4 program at Pinecrest Lakes Academy. In order to promote Students will have opportunity to earn “Eagle Bucks” in order to visit our “Eagle’s Nest” school store once a month. These rules, regulations, and due process procedures are designed to protect all members of the educational community in the exercise of their rights and responsibilities. Administration will make the final decision on disciplinary actions. Behavior not tolerated at Pinecrest Lakes Academy: • FIGHTING • BITING • USING A WEAPON OF ANY KIND • LANGUAGE THAT THREATENS AND IS OFFENSIVE OR INSULTING • DAMAGING OR DESTROYING PROPERTY • DEFIANT BEHAVIOR Students must be potty trained to attend Pinecrest Lakes Academy. Please bring a labeled change of uniform (shirt, shorts, underwear, socks) to keep in the classroom in case of an accident. ATTENDANCE POLICY Regular attendance is essential to the educational growth and development of each child and should not be taken lightly. We expect our students to demonstrate excellent attendance. Please make every effort to have your child attend school on time every day as indicated in the hours and schedule section of this handbook. Students who are dismissed early must be signed out by a parent or guardian in the main office. Students will not be released to persons whose names do not appear on the emergency contact card kept on file in the main office. A photo ID must be shown in order to release a student from the premises. In case of an emergency, if a person not listed on the emergency contact card must pick up a student, the parent must fax a signed statement with a copy of their driver’s license allowing that person to pick up their child on that specific day. It is the parent’s responsibility to come to 5
the main office and add that person to the emergency contact card for subsequent days. CONTACT INFORMATION It is critical that the school office be immediately notified of any change of address and/or telephone number. VISITORS FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS, ALL VISITORS must report to the main office to obtain a visitor’s pass. Only persons with pertinent business are permitted on school grounds. Children, including family members, who are not currently enrolled at Pinecrest Lakes Academy will not be permitted on school grounds during school hours. Instructional time is precious and must not be interrupted by parent visits. Please schedule appointments with your child’s teacher to avoid unnecessary interruptions. REPORTING STUDENT PROGRESS Individual Progress Reports are issued every nine weeks and are a progress report of each child on an individual basis. PARENT AND SCHOOL COMMUNICATION A prime factor in our operation is the importance we place upon communication between home and school. The lines of communication must be kept open at all times so that we may be properly tuned into your child’s needs. All parents should have and download the REMIND app in order to receive up-to-minute updates from the school. Use the following link: https://www.remind.com/join/plaeagles Please notify us immediately if: 1. Your child has developed a communicable disease . 2. You will be out of town 3. Your telephone number (home or work) has changed 4. You wish to change or add to the emergency contact numbers we are to use PARENT AND TEACHER COMMUNICATION Conferences with individual teachers must be arranged by contacting the teacher. Please make appointments for conferences before or after school. 6
AUTHORIZATION FOR MEDICATION We will only administer oral medication under doctor’s orders. In all cases, we must have an AFM (Authorization for Medication) form. This form is available in the office and must be completed by a pediatrician or a family doctor. ACCIDENTS/ILLNESSES Parents will be notified immediately in case of illness or an accident. In the event that a parent cannot be located, the person(s) named on the emergency contact cards will be contacted. It is your responsibility to make sure that these numbers are current and accurate. Please notify the office immediately of any accident or injury which occurred during arrival or departure from school. Children who are ill should remain at home to minimize the risk of passing the illness onto others. Please notify us of any contagious illness your child has so we may alert other parents. In addition, please notify the school of any chronic condition your child may have. Students must be free of fever without medication and stomach illnesses for 24 hours before returning to school, no exceptions! LOST AND FOUND A lost and found area will be designated in the main office. To minimize the quantity of lost and found articles, we ask that you please write your child’s name on everything he/she brings to school. FIELD TRIPS All trips planned by the school are for specific educational purposes. Participation in field trips requires the student to present a field trip form signed by the parent/guardian to his or her teacher in advance. Students going on a field trip must assume the responsibility for any necessary fee. Please keep in mind that once the field trip has been paid, the school will not issue a refund. Parent chaperones must not bring siblings along, as they are not covered by insurance. All parents attending field trips must be cleared through the Volunteer Safety Program. LUNCH Morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack are included with tuition. Parents are not allowed to drop off lunch in the middle of the day and no outside foods, such as fast food will be allowed in school. 7
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Birthday celebrations will be allowed during the last hour of school. Please see your child’s teacher for detailed information. 8
