POSITION DESCRIPTION Position title Head of Female Performance Group High Performance Reports to Director of Cricket Performance Position Type Full time Location Auckland Date May 2021 Job Purpose The Head of Female Performance position is responsible for ensuring that the Auckland Cricket female performance strategic objectives are achieved including but not restricted to developing Hearts and White Fern players and coaches, vertical alignment of the four female performance teams U17, U19, A’s and Hearts, programme leadership, and winning performance. This position is required to drive all female performance programmes from U17 to Hearts and include strategic leadership and planning, implementation of systems and processes, supporting future Hearts programmes, coach development support, staff management, review processes and alignment to NZC The role supports the Director of Cricket Performance in leading a collaborative strategy between all male and female performance staff, and the talent identification and pathway manager, to ensure that all strategic high performance objectives are met. It will also support the Director of Cricket Performance in the formal appointment process of ACA positions within the female performance pillar Key Responsibilities The primary role as the Head of Female Performance will be to drive the Hearts High Performance Plan by developing and maintaining a confident team culture that is based on; trust, partnerships and accountability. The Hearts Head Coach ensures player led development and growth leads to the promotion of WHITE FERNS that will result in an environment where the Hearts are winning trophies consistently. The secondary role will be to ensure all female performance strategic objectives are met including managing the lead coaches from the U17, U19, and A’s programmes, especially in the technical & tactical developmental aspects of the game and coach development integration
Key Position Responsibilities: Hearts Programme ● Design and implement an annual programme for the Hearts Squad that embraces group and individual sessions, which include technical, tactical, physiological, psychological and social elements. Programmes are athlete centred and encourage athlete empowerment to ensure that our players are developing in becoming consistent performers at the highest levels. ● To build a performance culture for the Hearts; one that includes the planning and delivery of resources that enable players and coaching staff to realise the players potential. ● Drive a values based culture which aligns to the ACA’s identity and strategic direction as we strive to become the leading cricket association in NZ. ● Support the Community Cricket Manager to oversee the performance of the Auckland Cricket Women’s Premier Club Cricket competition. ● Alongside relevant Hearts staff design & implement coaching sessions that: • Are structured, purposeful and enable learning through reflection; • Allow and encourage players to be self-reliant and resilient; • Align with the Auckland Cricket High Performance plan, Coach’s plan and Player plans; • Create/encourage an environment of player centred development and performance; • Put athletes in a number of situations/scenarios that push their learning, decision making and understanding of the challenges faced in a high performance environment ● Develop match strategies and evaluate individual team performance that is aligned with the agreed campaign plan. ● Establish a player leadership team to drive pre-established team goals both on and off the pitch. This will also include driving positive team culture and accountability. ● To effectively lead and manage all Hearts support staff as required. Player ● Lead the implementation and maintenance of all player individual performance plans (IPP’s), including personal development, disciplinary issues and end of season reviews. This will include integration with NZ Cricket’s High Performance Team and White Ferns management on relevant Hearts White Ferns IPP’s, to ensure a clear development and performance plan with each player that is followed by all parties.
● Utilise individual player plans as a coaching and learning focus, and provide appropriate actions to facilitate development and performance improvement of all Hearts contracted players. ● In conjunction with the Assistant Coaches, Strength & Conditioning specialists and Physiotherapist, implement a player injury and management programme. ● In conjunction with the ACA Head of Mental Skills, ensure that all players are committed to wellbeing and are working towards a career plan. Player Selection ● Ensuring that a well constructed selection process is implemented where transparency, collaboration and quantifiable data are encouraged. This will primarily include selecting Hearts teams for all fixtures within the selection committee framework. ● Evaluating and selecting the Hearts contracted player list, with appropriate consultation of the pathway coaches, Hearts selectors/scouts and the Director of Cricket Performance. Player Development ● To collaborate with the Talent Identification and Pathways Manager on the development and implementation of the female pathways cricket programme. ● Support the Talent Identification and Pathways Manager with budgeting and finances of the pathways programme, as agreed within the annual ACA Budget. Professional Development ● Have a clear professional development plan in place and engage in professional development to ensure their own growth as a coach. ● Oversee and lead the Hearts coaching and support staff’s professional development, in conjunction with the Director of Cricket Performance NZC ● Lead the relationship between NZC and Auckland Cricket so there is alignment around the contracted players learning and development as cricketers and people. Measure progress on NZC’s Smartbase. ● To be a key point of contact (with the Director of Cricket Performance) between NZ Cricket’s High Performance Programme and Auckland Cricket in all relevant matters. ● To deliver all NZC requirements as set out in the High Performance Service Level Agreement. Technical ● Integrating New Zealand Cricket video analysis and software with Auckland Cricket High Performance.
● Provide direction to New Zealand Cricket’s and Auckland Cricket’s video technicians within the Auckland Cricket High Performance programme, to promote learning in training and opposition scouting. Talent Identification & Pathway ● Support the Talent Identification and Pathway Manager to ensure the ACA female high performance player pipeline is robustly and objectively constructed in order to provide a succession plan from U17 – Hearts. ● Support the Talent Identification and Pathway Manager with the design and implementation of all talent identification systems and process, primarily at Hearts and A’s level but also to have a lens on the U17 & U19 players. ● Oversee and assist (where necessary) the selection panels for U17 and U19 levels to quality assure the processes and principles followed. ● Support and sometimes lead talent identification and selection meetings with selected coaches to provide clarity, continuity and collaboration. ● In collaboration with the Talent Identification and Pathways Manager, as well as the U19 & U17 coaches, lead & educate age grade selectors, coaches, support staff and players on the ACA ideal talent characteristics and selection criteria. ● Support the Talent Identification & Pathway Manager to implement winter training plans that align with the Auckland Cricket High Performance values to ensure that our players develop as athletes and people to perform at the highest level. Coach Development ● Support the Director of Cricket Performance in the construction, implementation and review of the ACA Coach Development Programme. This could include annual planning, modular delivery and alignment to selected stakeholders (premier club coaches). ● Facilitate regular coach development sessions with Hearts, As, U19 & U17 coaches to ensure “best practice” systems and processes are made available. ● Where applicable lead development sessions with all staff to establish a more collective approach to how high performance is understood and developed. Planning and Administration ● Establish short, medium, and long term goals and objectives for the Hearts squad and each of its members based on creating players that achieve their potential. ●
● Develop campaign plans for each competition as well as subsequent action plans for each competition to promote the development of WHITE FERNS that will lead to team success. ● Develop and prepare training schedules, player monitoring plans and player evaluations including extensive use of the Athlete Management System (AMS). ● Assist in the selection, management, and annual performance review of Hearts squad, support staff and consultant coaches. ● Provide comprehensive six-weekly and end of season reports for the Director of Cricket Performance ● Ensure strategic, operational and philosophical continuity across the elite player pathway. ● Support the Talent Identification and Pathway Manager in aligning all player and coach development programmes throughout the elite pathway. ● Ensure all travel, accommodation, clothing and cricket equipment requirements for the Auckland Hearts are facilitated through the Cricket Operations Manager. ● In co-ordination with the Director of Cricket Performance take responsibility for the Hearts and female performance budgets. ● Support the Cricket Operations Manager with coordination of all team coaching equipment including balls. Stakeholders Relationships ● Create a collaborative and inclusive high performance environment with playing, coaching, administrative and support staff that has processes for reflection/honest feedback that results in a high performing, performance arm of Auckland Cricket. ● Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships and partnerships. ● In conjunction with the Captain/s, continually demonstrate and communicate expectations of player behaviours that is created by the Hearts senior leadership group in relation to the Auckland Cricket Code of Behaviour. ● In conjunction with the Captain/s, deal openly and effectively with inappropriate player behaviours in keeping with the high performance standards set by Auckland Cricket and the team. ● Continually reinforce and develop a recognition of the Spirit of Cricket within the team, and the responsibility for the players and coaches to promote the game and show it in a positive light. ● Work openly and closely with relevant stakeholders at New Zealand Cricket. ●
● Build positive relationships with external stakeholders including Premier Club coaches, sponsors and media. Communication and Liaison ● Exhibit excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, analyse and impart; and respond in a timely and professional manner. ● Maintain regular communication with Department members. ● Identify and manage key internal relationships to support collaborative planning and refinement of strategies to meet the objectives of Auckland Cricket. ● Provide reports to the Director of Cricket Performance, as required. ● Establish relationships with key relevant external stakeholders (e.g. New Zealand Cricket High Performance) through regular liaison, consultation and negotiation. Representation ● Representing the Hearts and Auckland Cricket internally and externally in a manner consistent with the organization’s values and stakeholders’ expectations. ● Prepare and present reports for seminars, forums, workshops and conferences as required. ● Represent Auckland Cricket on appropriate committees as required. ● U19/U17 Coaches Person Specifications Tertiary qualification in Physical Education, Sport Management, Level of Education Sports Science, Education, Coaching or relevant Business Management degree is desirable Field of Education New Zealand Cricket Level 3 or participation in the New Zealand Cricket PCP or international equivalent. 5+ Years Experience A proven track record in high performance cricket at major association, international or equivalent level. The listed essential experience / knowledge preferably to have been gained in high performance cricket environments or similar performance environments. A strong and well-developed coaching philosophy around athlete Specific Knowledge & Skills centered coaching and the development of high performing athletes. A successful record as a coach or assistant coach at first-class and/or international level. Outstanding interpersonal skills with an ability to motivate, communicate and positively influence players and other stakeholders. A willingness to engage with a broad stakeholder group including staff, NZC, media and the wider cricket community within Auckland. A good understanding of how an elite sports team operates. Have a level of experience and maturity to be able to deliver a calming influence to the side and know when to talk and when not to.
Able to make decisions and take appropriate actions where required. Physically fit enough to cope with the demands of the job. An intrinsic belief in constant learning and self-development. A desire to see the growth and development of those both working with and for you.
