Introduction (Stephanie Lorenzo, Australia) Welcome to the Catholic Women’s Council’s Global Pentecost Liturgy. The Catholic Women's Council (CWC) is a global umbrella group of Roman Catholic networks working for the full recognition of the dignity and equality of women in the Church. It was first formed in Stuttgart in November 2019, when Catholic women's associations, initiatives, female religious orders and church bodies from Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland came together to network on a united position of women in the Church for the very first time. In January 2020, this network became global when we invited other groups to join this coalition. CWC has great ambitions and a limited time frame. Together we commit ourselves to working towards a major collective event in Rome in 2021. Our way to Rome 2021 is by pilgrimage, committing ourselves to walk with other women to reclaim our dignity and equality. We welcome back those of you whom we met only seven weeks ago, at our global Catholic Women’s Council Easter Liturgy. We are so happy you have returned. Welcome to those who are joining us for the first time. Spiritual Impulse: Our Tables (Cristina Lledo-‐Gomez, Philippines/Australia) We begin our liturgy by showing respect and acknowledgement of the Traditional Custodians of the different Lands on which we gather, of their Elders past, present and emerging. Here, from where I speak, the Traditional Custodians are the Guringai and Darug Peoples. We acknowledge their living culture and unique role in the life of their regions. We gather together in the presence of our + Source of All Being, Eternal Word, and Sophia Spirit. At this table – everybody is welcome. During this time when churches have been closed, Christian believers have been forced to ask many questions about this table: Where is it if it cannot be inside churches? Does the table have to be inside churches or are there other tables outside? Are the tables inside and outside connected or are they irreparably disconnected? While there are many tables, we are all called to the one feast of God. The guests of this one feast have always been called into constant transformation, constant new beginnings. Now the table itself has been called into a new beginning. How do we become this new table without judgement, without criticism, with care and welcome not only for the neglected among us but also the most annoying and disagreeable? How do we remain at this same table, but also courageously become its empowering and inclusive version? In the first few centuries, the early disciples of Jesus gathered in house churches, such as the one led by Priscilla and Aquila, Paul’s co-‐workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus. They broke and shared bread, remembering Jesus, into whose body they were united by their baptism. In these times of lockdown, what bread have we been consuming? What bread will continue to sustain us? Moreover, what bread can we offer others to remind us all of our deepest identity which is as God’s beloved, the Body of Christ, God’s hands and feet on earth, sharing in Jesus’ priestly, prophetic and pastoral mission? But breaking out of your own fear is much more difficult. Pentecost is the feast of breaking out of fear. What are we afraid of, we women? 2000 years ago not only men but also women went out into the streets. They simply did what the Spirit told them to do.
What are we waiting for? Especially we, religious women. Let us break through the structures set by a male dominated hierarchy! Let us live our own vocation without fear -‐ in obedience to the Holy Spirit. This will change the Church!!
