PEB KABNTSAB MONTHLY Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County Newsletter April 2021 A HMONG COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER HCCBC strives to preserve essential Hmong beliefs and restore acceptable cultural practices and values. HCCBC provides resources, community based family support and empowerment through the promotion of health, education, cultural integration, and social services to strengthen Hmong families and communities throughout Butte County. Butte County is one of the top 5 counties in California with the largest Hmong population. HCCBC is also a center where individuals and families can come to learn, share their ideas, feelings or concerns, and gain opportunities for their own growth. Zwjhnub/Sunday 6-8am Zoosiab For the month of March, Zoosiab program has completed Health Education topic and will start with the Mental Health topic. Activities and lessons are still through phone calls and distributions are made during home visits. Staff are educating participants of what they need to do to help with their Hypertension, Diabetes, and consuming nutritious food in the month of March. A Zoosiab staff also help a participant’s spouse to get her driver’s license in early March. Covid-19 As the new year of 2021 approaches, the Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County (HCCBC) continues to distribute Covid-19 essentials to families and the community. This year, HCCBC will provide monthly updates. For the month of March 2021, Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County has distributed and served: THANK YOU The North Valley Community Foundation rewarded the Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County with $1,500 for their Covid-19 Employee Care Grant Program. This grant is specifically used to provide self-care activities for staff members. Care packages was provided to all twelve employee at our office. These packages will include items and activities used to promotes self-care practices as a mean to reduce burn outs during this pandemic. Raising the Child March MFC focused on Spring Shower with Love and Care. Staff provided spring activities for parents and children to interact and engage at home. Some activities include flying kite and blowing bubbles. Flying kites is an easy and fun outdoor activity. You can fly them at the park or any other big empty area and can be enjoyable with the family. The purpose of these activities are to build a stronger relationship between parents and children while quarantine at home. Therefore, the outcome of these activities strengthened families’ social connections. Hmong Talk-Line (HTL) HTL program was able to assist a consumer with clarification and understanding of their medical exam results. Staff was able to support consumer through gastrointestinal procedures and follow ups. Consumer was stress they had colon cancer according to their personal interpreter. Staff and consumer was able to consult with the gastrointestinal specialist and confirm that consumer is negative for colon cancer but getting screened at an early stage to prevent colon cancer. Promotores The month of March is Self-Awareness. Promotores weekly topic is All about me enhance with growth mindset, become effective problem solvers, gain estimation and prediction skills and learn how to express feeling. Participants gain the benefits of under- standing themselves and applies the knowledge to their everyday life, be honest, and want honest feedback from others because it keeps them more aware of how they are coming across and how they are doing. CalFresh Healthy Living March is the 1st month kick off of CalFresh Nutrition newsletters. Hmong Cultural Center have gain the resources of Cal Fresh Nutrition program for the year of 2021. We are providing single session classes in nutrition, physical activity and resources. Book an appointment with us today. Come join us for our 1st Walk in the Park on April 30th. Koomtes Youth Program (KYP) and HCCBC Youth Empowering TAY’s Town Hall Eventbrite is finalized. Transitional Age Youth (TAY) is having our Town Hall meeting: With Help Comes Hope, on May 26th 2021 from 2pm-5pm. It will be an Online event. Koomtes Youth Program (KYP) and Family Planning Koomtes Youth Program (KYP) and Family Planning Program collaborated to held weekly podcast every Monday by mid-afternoon in order to interact with their youth participants. Staffs come up with different educational topic each week to talk, discuss, and engage with youth on subjects that youth participants want to learn or hear more about. Some of the previous topics that were discussed during podcast are Hmong history, patriarchy and beauty image. Towards the end of the month, staffs hosted a raffle drawing with gift cards that were up to $150 as a way to show appreciation to participants’ interaction during this pandemic time. The purpose of these podcasts is to provide a safe and enjoyable space for youth participants to come in to listen or share their interests with their peer and find themselves. Immigrant, Refugee, and Stakeholder Advocacy (IMM-REF) IMM-REF staff hosted the second Roundtable meeting to educate audience based on the topic of the Hmong 18 Clans on 03/12/2021. Staff introduced program and purpose of Roundtable meeting. Shared about intergenerational trauma, contemporary socioeconomic challenge and culture of silence. Opened space for participants to shared their experience of working with our target population and asked questions they are concerned about. Everyone provided worthy feedbacks that allowed staffs to improve and go in direction of trainings they planned for.
