ABOUT PDSA PDSA is the UK’s largest veterinary charity. TRUSTEE - ROLE DESCRIPTION • PDSA Trustees sit on Council, the equivalent of a non-executive management board • PDSA Trustees are not remunerated and the time commitment is 12 to 15 days a year, comprising quarterly Council meetings, strategy workshops and specialist committees • Most meetings are held in London; travel and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed, so where you live isn’t an issue. Knowledge & Experience Experience • Significant senior management and business experience, and/or IT/digital transformation. • Experience as an executive member of a management board at either group, operating or subsidiary level • Broad strategic, financial and commercial experience • Professional and academic experience at a high level. Attributes and Abilities Trustees are able to: • provide strategic vision and make good, independent judgement • work effectively as a member of a team • scrutinise, analyse and assess Council and Committee papers and provide expert guidance in their specific areas of knowledge • think creatively • contribute to discussions on issues in which they have special expertise • act with honesty and integrity • display a commitment to PDSA, its vision, values and activities • understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship • be willing to devote the necessary time, energy and effort to their duties as a Trustee • be willing to speak openly and candidly. Qualifications • Degree level education or equivalent experience in management • Evidence of strong continuing professional development • Relevant professional or business qualification an advantage.

Candidates will have a proven track record of success in people-focused organisations and will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and attributes. Council would be strengthened by the addition of candidates with a background in marketing, digital transformation or Scottish affairs in the light of increasing devolution of powers, but applications from all disciplines will be considered. Previous experience as a Trustee or charity volunteer isn’t essential; however, on a personal level they must be able to demonstrate empathy with the mission, aims and values of PDSA and an affinity with companion animals
TIMETABLE The closing date for applications is Monday 25th June Please also note the following dates: • Preliminary interviews with Trustees Unlimited: Mon 2nd and Weds 4th July in central London • Interviews for shortlisted candidates, and informal meetings with the PDSA Chair and Director General: during July and August (please advise any dates during this time that are not convenient) • Nominated candidates’ details shared with Council: 6th September. Other dates to note: o First Board attendance is likely to be in December, and appointments will be ratified at the AGM in June 2019. In the meantime, nominees will begin their extensive induction programme. ** remember to please advise us about any dates that are really not convenient for you when your application is submitted. Candidates are reminded that like most trustee roles, these are unremunerated.
