Race Guide - Sunday 24th Feb 2019 passionate about property Wokinghamhalf 2019 A Berkshire Championships Race passionate about property
Introduction Wokingham Half Marathon has been running since 1984, much of it’s success is down to Peter and Barbara Evans who with their team of dedicated volunteers developed an outstanding race that served the running community, benefited the local community and gave Wokingham an event to be proud of. Peter decided to retire as race director following the 2018 race and asked Racesolutions if they would like to take on the event. From 2019 the race will operate as the Wokingham Half Marathon company with the support of Racesolutions Limited. Racesolutions have a track record of building great events and are equipped to help the event face the challenges of Wokingham’s expansion and an increasingly commercial and aggressive mass participation event market. Peter Evans, organiser of the Wokingham Half-Marathon until 2018, has been recognised by Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Rob Stanton, with a Mayor’s Award for his services to the voluntary sector and sport in the Wokingham Borough. Peter, who resides in Wokingham, is also Chairman of the Wokingham Borough Sports Sponsorship Fund, which grants sports to young people who have excelled at sport, but not to the level where they are able to receive funding from national bodies. Wokingham Half Marathon supports local charities, community groups and good causes.
