11.55 The Difficult Immigration Client: Symptoms and Strategies
Client relationships that start toxic - or go toxic - are exhausting, time-consuming and can
result in serious damage to your practice. Immigration clients pose particular challenges
because of the stress of their situation and barriers to mutual understanding. This
session will provide insights into how to recognise the potential problem client early and
what to do about them, and to establish a client engagement to reduce the risk of
complaints. It will also highlight what you can do to contain the damage when a client
turns on you. Barrister and ADR specialist Phillip Green brings his knowledge of
adviser-client dynamics to bear on this topic, and Simon Laurent provides an
immigration-specific perspective from two decades in the industry.
