Subscribe Past Issues Translate Happy October from the Barton Village team! Last month we settled into our new digs at 659 Barton Street East beside Hendry's Barbershop. While we're still splitting our time between the office and home, we're excited to have a much larger space to be able to safely welcome visitors. We're all stocked up on PPE, which we've been so pleased to distribute to any area businesses in need. We also have some great artwork by local artists like HamOnt Doodles for sale. Stop in and have a (distanced) look anytime! NEVER FEAR: HALLOWEEN IS STILL ON!
Subscribe Past Issues Translate Halloween might look a little different this year, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate! We've got some spoooooky fun planned for the community: a kids' scavenger hunt with sweet treats as prizes, plus an online costume contest for kids, adults, and pets! We've hung lettered pumpkins in the windows of area businesses from Victoria Avenue to Stirton Street. Pick up your activity sheet at our office (659 Barton Street East) or any participating business and find all the letters to spell out a fun Halloween phrase! Bring your completed form to the shipping container at 414 Barton Street East on Halloween Day from 2 to 4 pm and exchange it for a sweet candy prize and a chance to win our grand prize! Any kids who don't want to play can still come by our Halloween Candy Carton for free treats! We've also got a virtual costume contest with great prizes in four categories: best kid's costume, best adult costume, best pet costume, and best group or couples costume. Enter by following @barton_village on Instagram and tagging your costume shots with the hashtag #BartonBooliever. Follow us on Instagram for more information on these and more Halloween activities! BARTON VILLAGE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Subscribe Past Issues Translate It's that time of year again! Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, so save the date! We had such a great time last year gathering in the beautiful Westinghouse building, and we wish we could gather in person again, but in light of safety requirements, this year's AGM will be moving online. The AGM is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our amazing businesses, and moving to Zoom won't stop us from doing that! We're putting together swag bags for all virtual attendees featuring treats from some of our Barton Village faves, plus drinks so we can toast Barton's successes from the comfort of our homes. Registration will be available on our website shortly. If you'd like a registration reminder, please email bartonvillager@gmail.com to add your name to the list. WARD 3 COMMUNITY SAFETY MEETING SERIES The Ward 3 office is hosting a series of four community virtual meetings to address issues of community safety and well-being. The aim of these meetings, says Councillor Nrinder Nann, is to "facilitate stronger relationships in our communities, build capacity and resilience in our neighbourhoods to address issues, while also getting crystal clear about what to expect from City services." By participating in these meetings, you will help inform top priorities to address current and emerging issues that need further action. In order to participate, you will need to register in advance. Please fill out the community safety survey to indicate which meeting(s) you will attend and to let the councillor know your questions, concerns, and ideas. BARTON VILLAGE (VIRTUAL) CHRISTMAS MARKET
Subscribe Past Issues Translate To ensure the safety of our community, we won't be holding our Christmas Market in person this year, but with so many creatives in and around Barton Village making and selling wonderful products, we'll be taking the market online to highlight some of these amazing small businesses. We're still in the planning stages, but if your business would like to be a featured vendor, email us at bartonvillage@gmail.com for more details. If you know any local makers in and around Barton Village who you think we should include, let us know! BARTON SERVICE PROVIDERS NETWORK The Barton Service Providers Network was formed in 2019 in response to the need for increased community supports for vulnerable populations in Barton Village. The BSPN is a collective of service providers on and around Barton who meet once a month to communicate about the services they offer and identify further services needed in the community. The SPN has continued to meet virtually throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, working to strategically address gaps in services and provide support for community members. If you are a service provider and would like to join the network, or if you have issues you'd like to address in a monthly meeting, please reach out to info@bartonvillage.ca HAVE YOU GOTTEN YOUR FLU SHOT YET?
Subscribe Past Issues Translate Flu shots are currently available from your family doctor or at most Shopper's Drug Mart pharmacies.
