DIOCESAN APPEAL As you probably know by now, the annual campaign formerly known as the Bishop’s Appeal is now called the Diocesan Appeal. There will no longer be “in-pew” collection of pledges. Instead pledge cards were mailed to parishioners between July and September. A second mailing was sent in November to those who did not respond. All pledges and payments will be sent directly to the RCDA Of ce of Stewardship and will no longer be processed in the parish of ce. The appeal year runs through June 30, 2021 so there is plenty of time left to make a donation • For more information or to make a gift or pledge, please visit www.thediocesanappeal.org. • If you would prefer to donate by mail or have questions, call the RCDA Of ce of Stewardship & Development at 518-453-6680 or email stewardship@rcda.org If you have already made a gift or pledge, we thank you! If not, we ask for your prayerful consideration. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” The Parish Of ce will be closed in observance of MLK Day on Monday, January 18th. fi fi ! fi fi

Random Thoughts From Deacon Mike Number Dear Parish Family, I thought that as we begin the New Year it might be helpful for you all to hear from me from time-to-time. I am the Interim Parish Administrator here at Mater Christi Parish. For those of you who have no idea who I am, my name is Deacon Mike McDonald. I was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in September of 2002. Originally I hail from Brooklyn, NY and moved up to the Albany Region (Greene County) during the 1980’s. Prior to my secular retirement in 2008, I had many di erent jobs (High School Teacher; NYC Parks Dept. Director of Labor Relations; NYC Mayors O ce; NYS Governor’s O ce). Since 2009, I have been able to devote myself full time to the Diocese of Albany. Currently I am assigned as deacon to the Parish of St. Mary in Coxsackie, and I am also assigned as the Interim Parish Administrator here at the Parish of Mater Christi on the weekdays. This interim assignment marks my ninth interim administrative assignment over the last 15 or so years. I have been here at Mater Christi since the beginning of September. Unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Pandemic still raging in our area, I am sure that you are all experiencing much disruption and insecurity in your spiritual as well as personal lives. We here at Mater Christi are trying to abate some of this for you. Father John Bradley, Father Kyle Eads and I, as well as the Mater Christi sta , have been attempting to provide you with the sacra- ments, worship and ministerial assistance, and online resources for the Youth of our parish. They may not be at the times that you are used to or with the number of others that you fondly remember, but, under the restrictions forced on us by this dreadful disease, we are trying our best to bring God’s sacraments to you either in person, or online, or broadcast live-streamed on YouTube. So many of you have asked me if the Diocese plans on closing Mater Christi. I can share with you the thought that I have shared with the many parishes before you: The fact that you see an interim Administrator and Priests here at Mater Christi should indicate to you that the Diocese is investing in the success of the future of this parish. So be at peace. If you have any questions, thoughts or comments please feel free to get them to me either through regular mail at the Parish O ce or via email at michael.mcdonald@rcda.org. Happy New Year, Deacon Mike ff ffi ffi ff ffi 1
