Dalby State High School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association Student Resource Scheme Parent Information Booklet 2018 Creating the future; every student, every day.
About the scheme The Parents’ and Citizens’ Association of Dalby State High School wishes to invite you to participate in our Student Resource Scheme. The P&C Association has been successfully operating the Scheme for over twenty years. Parents are advised that participation in the Scheme is entirely voluntary. Objectives of the Scheme This initiative allows the school to: reduce the cost for the purchase of textbooks and other resources for the education of students; provide for the operation of a voluntary, co-operative Scheme in order to maximise the benefits to parents, to schools and the entire school community; provide for the operation of the levy-based Scheme to assist the school to enhance resources for all students’ learning, recreation and comfort. How the scheme operates Operating a Scheme like this means that individual parents do not need to purchase textbooks and other covered items necessary for classroom learning. As the Scheme is annually audited and run separately from the school, parents can be assured that the best value for money is achieved at all times. What is provided through the Scheme? The scheme provides resources including: prescribed textbooks for each subject studied which will be distributed to students for the full year’s schooling, or changed throughout the year; class sets of texts, eg novels and plays and other learning materials for use within the classroom; workbooks and other student reference books; One Texas Instruments TI-30XB calculator for students in Year 7 – 10; consumable items like photocopied workbooks; photocopies of printed class notes (excluding student personal copying); consumable materials in subjects including Manual Arts (like timber, acrylic, nuts and bolts), Home Economics (demonstration food items), Visual Art (like paint and clay) and Science activity manuals; curriculum-based transport costs and venue hire and entrance fees (Physical Education) eg tennis court hire, golf green fees, pool entry fee; CDs, DVDs, printer toner and paper for computer-based activities; School software site licences; Other miscellaneous course material requirements; Student diary and Student ID Card will be supplied to all students in 2018; One school hat (choice of bucket hat or cap) will be supplied to all new students in 2018; A detailed listing of resources supplied under this Scheme and stationery and other consumables to be purchased by parents is provided in this document. How does the Government Resources Allowance contribute to the scheme? The Government Textbook and Resource Allowance is paid direct to all eligible students. The allowance is currently $123 for students in years 7 to 10 and $266 for students in years 11 and 12. For contributing members of the scheme, this allowance is paid directly to the Scheme and contributes towards your commitment. Further information about Government Textbook and Resources Allowances can be found at http://ppr.det.qld.gov.au/corp/finance/services/Pages/Textbook-and- Resource-Allowance.aspx .
Membership Costs A security deposit of $50 is required for each new student member of the scheme. The security deposit is refundable when the student leaves the school, provided all texts are returned undamaged and a Termination of Membership Form is completed. Security deposits will only be refunded to the original payer unless that person gives written consent for the deposit to be paid to another party. If texts are returned to the scheme in a damaged condition, the security deposit will be used for repair or replacement of the item. The security deposit will then need to be “topped up” to return it to the value of $50 for the following year. The security deposit will be forfeited if not claimed within two years of leaving the school. The fee for 2018 will be $240 for Year 7, 8 and 9 students and $260 for Year 10, 11 and 12 students (subject to change). Students who do not study the full complement of subjects (for example, six subjects in the senior school) are entitled to a pro-rata refund of contributions. Early payment discount A $20 discount will be offered for payments received before 1 December, 2017. Payment instalment scheme Payment in instalments can be set up any time during 2017. Parents experiencing financial difficulty Parents wishing to join the Scheme, but who are having financial difficulties are asked to contact the Principal or designated officer of the school to discuss how the financial obligations can be met throughout the school year. All discussions are in confidence. Non participation Parents who do not wish to participate in the Scheme must complete the Participation Agreement Form indicating NO to the participation and provide all necessary texts and resources for their children as detailed on the Year Level Requirements List and/or Booklist to enable the student to engage with the curriculum. Parents not participating in the Scheme are required to return the form, indicating their preference of non-participation. Signature Programs Due to the significantly high resource and training costs associated with these programs, students must be members of the Student Resource Scheme with fees paid in order to ensure ongoing participation. Collecting Book Packs at the Beginning of the School Year The Resource Outlet closes on the last day of the school term and reopens the week before school commences in the new year. Opening dates are advertised in the School Newsletter. Parents/caregivers that have paid the Student Resource Scheme fees for the new school year, are able to collect their child’s book packs from the Tuckshop during the week before the commencement of school in January. Fees can still be paid during this week, but no discount will be applied.
Conditions of membership 1. Students will supply their own personal learning items – as detailed in the school book lists, these items include pencils, pens, calculator and notebooks. 2. Books issued to students must be kept in good condition. 3. Students will be responsible for replacement of lost or negligently damaged books. 4. The scheme Convenor should be contacted immediately if a text is lost or damaged. 5. All textbooks remain the property of the scheme and must be returned to the scheme at the end of the school year or when a student leaves. 6. Books and resources provided under the scheme can not be issue to students whose parent/caregivers choose not to participate in the scheme. 7. If a student enrols after the school year commences, the amount of contribution will be on a pro-rata basis based on the number of weeks of the year remaining. 8. If a student member leaves the school during the school year, completes a termination form and has returned all materials in an appropriate condition, a refund will be calculated based on the number of weeks remaining in the year. The security deposit will also be refunded under the same conditions. All unclaimed security deposits will be forfeited if not claimed within two years of leaving the scheme. Security deposits can only be refunded to the original payer unless that person gives written consent for the refund to be paid to another party. 9. Some other costs may be applicable with some subjects. Parents will be notified throughout the year of these costs. Excursions and performances are examples of these costs.
