                    Parent Handbook/Registration 2018
                                              WELCOME
We would like to welcome all participants and parents to the 2018 football season. We hope that this
season will be exciting and rewarding for all those involved. The Walker Renegades’ program is in its 45th
season and continues to build a strong tradition for excellence and success.

The following information contained in the Parent Handbook will provide both participants and parents
with a general outline of the rules under which the program will be structured.

                              WALKER RENEGADES MISSION STATEMENT
Walker Renegades’ purpose is to provide participants; both football and cheerleader, with a sense of
teamwork, leadership, discipline, sportsmanship and athleticism they will need to help them throughout
their lives. Walker Renegades promotes a standard of excellence for its participants, coaches,
volunteers, parents and board members on and off the field. We encourage our youth to be the best
they can be at all times.

                                             ACADEMIC GOALS
The Walker Renegades program supports the critical role that academics play in the development of our
student-athletes and recognizes the need to perform in the classroom as well as on the field. It is never
the desire of the Walker Renegades program to have football and/or cheerleading take precedence over
school requirements. If a conflict should arise, please notify your coach immediately. We would ask that
parents support this effort in order to encourage academic success for every participant.

                                     SAFETY IS OUR PRIMARY CONCERN
Many of the exercises, drills, and team rules are there to ensure that your player is physically and
mentally fit for football and/or cheerleading. Each player is unique and will develop the skills at his/her
own pace. We hope this season will develop new sills and confidence for each player who participates in
the Walker Renegade program.
                                       PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES
The participants of the Walker Renegades program are expected to abide by a code of conduct, which
includes but is not limited to the following:
        - Respect of volunteer coaches, team members, opponents, officials and other representatives
involved with the Walker Renegades program.
        - Participants must notify their coach in advanced if a practice is going to be missed. No
        exceptions!
        - Good sportsmanship is mandatory. No vulgar language, tantrums, display of anger or fighting
will be tolerated. Any such action will result in disciplinary measures and may include
        suspension from the team.
        - As a member of the Walker Renegades program you represent yourself and your teammates
on and off the field. Whether in victory or defeat you will conduct yourself with pride and poise.
        - Always be willing to help your coach or teammate when required.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
The level of support given to a participant by the parents will have a measured impact as to the success
of each player. To better understand the parent’s role and involvement in the program, we have
developed the following guidelines and recommendations:
        - It is mandatory that ALL children participating in the Walker Renegades program, either
football player or cheerleader be under parental supervision AT ALL TIMES. If your child is
injured or hurt and a parent or guardian is not present, the members of the Walker Renegades
will make decisions regarding your child’s medical needs and all costs will be the responsibility
of the parent. If you are not able to attend practice or games, please notify another parent,
coach or board member and provide a phone number when you can be reached.
        - Parents and visitors at practices and games must stay in designated areas reserved for the
spectators. Sideline areas on game day and the practice fields are off limits unless the parent
has been asked to be involved in some aspect of the practice. Please do not enter into gate that
separate the field, also leave end zones clear.
        - Parents are encouraged to cheer for their teams from the stands with enthusiasm but should
never yell obscenities or derogatory remarks aimed at the opponents or conduct themselves in
        an offensive manner.
        - A large number of people are needed to help the program run smoothly. Each parent is asked
to volunteer a portion of his or her time during the season to help make the program run
efficiently. Parents are required to volunteer, or pay an opt-out fee. If a parent doesn’t show up
for designated volunteer time then there will be a $25 fine for each occurrence do before post
        season games and Banquet.
        - Any fees owed from last season will be collected before player is allowed to register the next
        season.
         - It is the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation to and from practice and games.
        - If a participant’s grades are unsatisfactory or homework starts to become a problem, the
parent should notify the head coach and together determine the best course of action to be
        taken.
        - Parents should always maintain a cooperative attitude towards coaches, participants, officials
and board members. Remember, all are volunteers.

                                       ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES
Team Size – Each football squad roster is limited to 40 players, per SLYFA rules and regulations.

Minimum Play Rule – Walker Renegades and the SLYFA organization have NO minimum playtime rule.
Game Day – This is what we have all worked for and game day is very exciting. Coaches will determine
how much time before the scheduled game time each player needs to arrive at the game site. The
coaches work very hard on determining their game plan and substitution schedules prior to the game. If
you are going to miss a game or will be late, notify your coach as soon as possible.
Drug and Alcohol Use – Drug and alcohol use is strictly forbidden at games, practices and other
associated events and will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in such activities will be asked to leave.
Injuries – Any football related injury, regardless of outward appearances, is taken seriously and will be
addressed as such. Safety is our primary concern and extra care will be taken in dealing with any
reported injury. We would also encourage participants to make known any injury to his/her coach
immediately upon occurrence. Participants should not hide injuries in order to facilitate more playing
time. Any player sustaining an injury which requires a doctor’s care will be required to provide a medical
release from that doctor to further participation in games or practices.
Parking – ONLY board members will be allowed to park inside the gate at practice and on game days at
the Walker Renegade Field. This is for everyone’s safety. You WILL be asked to move your vehicle.
Disciplinary Actions – The Head Coach of a team has the authority to take action against any player that
is causing continuous disruption of playing time either at practice or games. Disciplinary action could
include the following:
First Offense – counseling with the player
Second Offense – counseling with the player and parent (with a board member present)
Three of more Offenses – suspension or expulsion from the league for the remainder of the
         season
Complaints – Please contact your team’s Head Coach first and try to resolve the issue. If you cannot
resolve it at that level, the complainant should contact the President. If the President and complainant
cannot resolve the situation, then the President will bring the complaint before the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors will then take the complaint under advisement and issue a response to the
complainant. The complainant is welcome to all board meetings.
Communication - Communication is extremely important to the success of any organization. As the
2018 season progresses, you may at one time or another have questions in regards to a variety of
different issues. Please feel free to contact a Board Member or Coach and every effort will be made to
provide you with the information you need. If you have questions, comments or suggestions that cannot
be handled by your coach, please submit them to the Board. You may do so by visiting our website or
contacting a Board Member.
WIFL Board Meetings– Every member of the WIFL organization is invited to all Board meetings. A
member is defined as any parent or legal guardian of a participant in the WIFL organization. Parent
participation and input is very important to the growth of any organization. Please visit the Walker
Renegade website for announcement of meetings, upcoming events, or news regarding the Walker
Renegades.

Thank you and have a great season.

Walker Renegades
2018 Code of Conduct
In an effort to promote good sportsmanship, Walker Independent Football League a.k.a. Walker
Renegades has pledged to enforce a code of conduct that we hope will ensure the physical and emotional
well being of all its participants. Our goal is to ensure that all of our participants will thrive in an
environment where respect, team play, and camaraderie abound.
Walker Renegades recognizes the physical and aggressive nature of the sport and, as such, we recognize
the need for control. As parents and coaches, it our responsibility to lead by example. Therefore, all
parents and coaches are responsible to read and sign this Code of Conduct and to adhere to it. All
participants who are deemed to bin violation of the Code of Conduct are subject to suspension and/or
expulsion from the program. Parents who are found to be in violation may be barred from attending future
games and/or forfeit their child’s right to participate in the program.
Such offenses that may warrant suspension or expulsion are as follows:
a) Abuse of a game official, coach, league officer, player, or spectator, whether it is verbal or physical,
including but not limited to swearing, violence, obscene gestures, and other aggressive/inappropriate
behavior reported to Walker Renegades.
b) Gross misconduct, including but not limited to fighting with an opposing player on or about the
playing field of Walker Renegades.
c) Intentional acts that could result in bodily injury or emotional harm to any person on or about the fields
of Walker Renegades.

Coaches will be responsible for routine discipline of minor infractions as they incur within their
own teams. Any infraction that cannot be controlled at the team level or that the coach believes warrants,
will be referred to the President for further action.
Coaches are to place the emotional and physical well being of his players ahead of his desire to win.
Coaches will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to his players. Swearing and
excess physical contact will not be tolerated and complaints of such shall be referred to the President for
further action.
Parents and other spectators are expected to express their enthusiasm positively during games. Any
negative expressions (booing, jeering, etc.) will be considered in violation of this code. Furthermore,
parents/spectators are not to approach coaches during or immediately after a game with questions or
complaints relative to playing time, positions, game strategy, etc. These matters should be taken up in a
private conversation at a later (and less emotional) time.
Walker Renegades hopes to enhance the development of its participants. Our goals are to benefit the
children who choose to participate. The above guidelines are set as a reminder that as parents and coaches
we are to act as positive examples for our children to follow. With your help, these disciplinary measures
may never need to be imposed.
