MACKAY CUTTERS The game of Rugby League has been a staple in the community of Mackay for as long as I can remember. From the days of watching the game at the Mackay showgrounds, while sitting on the greyhound track around the field, to now being able to watch the game at our wonderful Mackay stadium, it continues to bring the community together. We at the Mackay Cutters believe in “Developing Pathways & Growing Communities”, this is what drives us to succeed as a club and underpins our decisions and direction. We do this by ensuring that we create real pathways for players’ rugby league goals as well as ensuring we deliver community-based programs and initiatives that enrich and grow our community while utilising our sporting profile. We believe strongly in Integrity, Humility, Competitive Spirit, Pride in our Club and Strength in Community. We strive to deliver these qualities while representing Mackay through the game we love, Rugby League. We’re a part of the community and the community is a part of us. We look forward to your support in 2020 and beyond. STEVE DOWDEN MACKAY CUTTERS | CHAIRMAN Version 8 August 2020 2

The inaugural year of the Mackay Cutters Women’s Academy in 2020 continues the commitment of the club to nurture and create opportunities for the region’s talent. The Cutters Women’s Academy provides a structured pathway to support the coaching and development of talented young women into elite rugby league and is a strategic step toward the formation of a North Queensland NRLW team. The academy delivers a best practice coaching and development program led by experienced coaching staff so that players can reach their full potential while staying within the Mackay region. Talent will be identified and invited to participate in a minimum of six academy sessions. Participants will be identified via: • Grassroots junior and senior club competitions • Schoolgirl competitions • Representative pathways • The Queensland School Sport Rugby League State Championships • Rugby league carnivals • School and club recommendations The 6-week academy will culminate in a City v Country game, (date TBC) made up of the academy participants, so that it can assist in the selection of Women’s representative sides for 2020. The program aligns with the purpose of the Cutters Junior Academy, to provide skills enhancement, best practice training techniques, support and guidance, and elite-level coaching. As part of our Change the Game initiative, 2020 will see the introduction of our inaugural Mackay Cutters U23’s Development Squad allowing us to ‘keep in touch’ and ‘stay engaged’ with those players who may be too old for the U20’s squad but are not quite ready for our Intrust Super Cup squad. As a club we have recognised that there is a gap in our recruitment and retention of players. We have found that after players finished in our under 20s squad, or players that do pre-seasons with us from local league however not yet at the top level, they return to local league and we lose contact. We believe that these players need further training and attention from the Mackay Cutters. To close this gap, we have created the under 23 development squad, where we continue our relationship with these players and development of their skills base. This has a twofold impact. We improve the players who then improve local league, and we then ensure local Players continue to be developed, and then feed back into our club as local content. This ensures that we not only talk about Developing Pathways, but we put real action behind it. The U23 Development Academy will run from February to September each season from 2020. OUR VISION FOR RECONCILIATION The Mackay Cutters have had a proud association with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since the club’s inception in 2008. The Mackay Cutters have undertaken this Reconciliation Action Plan to ensure we continue to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities whilst making a positive contribution to closing health and educational gaps between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision for reconciliation is to strengthen connections and relationships with the community, build and increase respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their culture, to continue to acknowledge our proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and to demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation to a wider audience with the overarching aim of closing health and educational gaps for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is further to provide an environment which is free from discrimination and promotes respectful and positive behaviours. This vision is valued by our Board of Directors, CEO, Administration, Coaching Staff, Playing Group and every employee and volunteer involved with the Club. Our Club will continue to build strong associations with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia. By realising this vision, we can help influence social change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and other Australians. Version 8 August 2020 10
