Pre-generated lists are also acceptable, but must be legible. All lists will be validated by the Judge prior to the first round of each tournament. All lists must follow the current rules for the Hobbit Strategy Battle game and Sourcebooks produced by Games Workshop. 1.3 Terrain Terrain at the NOVA Open has been designed to combine a pleasing aesthetic and playability. The following terrain guidelines are in effect for the duration of the NOVA Open: • The Judges will set up all terrain before each game begins. • Players may not bring their own terrain to the events. 1.4 Proxies and Conversions Converted models are ok as long as permission is given by the judges during registration. The guidelines we will follow are: • Conversions must be similar in size and aesthetics to the actual model produced by Games Workshop. If the model does not exist in the Games Workshop products, then the model must be the height and size of similarly sized models. They may be vague, but there are too many different possible conversions to list all of them here. • Conversions can be made from any product line. • Models may not be converted to use weapons and wargear that did not come in the original box for the model. If the original model does not exist, then the closest similar model within the faction will be used to determine this (ie: Corsair Reavers can only be equipped with what Corsairs can have for free) Proxies are one Games Workshop model taking the place of another. This will be stricter on their acceptance: • Heroes can be proxied if the proxied model is the same race as the real miniature. If it is not the same race, then get approval with a judge. • Proxied models must be equipped with the exact wargear of the real model. • Warrior models may be proxied but make sure your opponent is very clear on what they are. 1.5 Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can I change my faction that I am playing during a single event? A: You cannot change your list during the events at any time. The list you bring is what you keep. Q: How are rules disputes handled? A: Rules disputes should be settled with a judge. Q: How do we mitigate unfair advantages of certain factions and the terrain? A: Having the players alternate to place terrain should handle most situations of unfair advantages in the tournaments, however it is purposeful for certain races to be better in certain matches due to the terrain. This is the nature of the game. If you fight goblins in a city, or Elves in a forest, you must be strategic to play to your own strengths. Scenarios will be altered to prevent unbalances between factions Q: Are any House rules allowed? A: There is only one house rule in this tournament. That is the FAQ recognized by the GBHL regarding monsters. Monsters may only throw a model from the point at which the thrown model is touching the monster. Additionally, the model may not cross the monster’s base. The NOVA Open, LLC The NOVA Open 2015: September 3 – 6, 2015 Page 4
Q: Are there time limits to each match? A: There are time limits on all matches. See the scenario information for the limits. Q: Am I allowed to have outside assistance while playing? A: Assistance should be limited to only rules disputes or rules questions. However, if the game is not one of the 5 main events, then help can be given. Q: If I realize later that an illegal event happened in a game, can I declare the game void. A: If the incident is accidental such as forgetting about a certain rule, then the game will NOT be declared void. The players must know the rules as they play or ask someone if they think they are misunderstanding something. Purposeful illegal play will result in banning from the tournament. The Heroes controlled by the players cannot affect each other negatively or positively in any way with any spells or special abilities. Tom Bombadil and Goldberry may be played but do not count toward your force. The Watcher in the Water must start play on the field. Gothmog can copy Heroic Actions from other players.
