Student Wellness - Elizabeth Spector, Wellness Coordinator
Wellness Center The Paly Wellness Center - Located in the Tower Building, the Wellness Center provides a safe environment where students can go to discuss a variety of issues from depression, grief, self-esteem, family life and stress to dating violence, sexual identity and health needs. - The center is a technology free space where students can come if they need to take a break and engage in relaxation strategies. We provide tea and snacks for students as well as coloring books, mindfulness activities, and more. -Students can participate in a variety of services including mental health, counseling, nursing services, youth development opportunities, referrals to community agencies and more. - The Wellness team does student outreach throughout the year and provides education to students, parents, and staff on a number of Wellness topics. - Wellness services provided to youth are free and CONFIDENTIAL!

Ways to Support Students with College Applications • Review applications before submittal • Remind them to stay on track with schoolwork • Appropriate email address • Use legal name on ALL college applications • Be sensitive to student behavior and choices during this stressful time

Teacher Advisor vs. Teacher Letter Broad overview of student More focused view of -Academic student in the classroom, a -Extracurriculars primarily academic report -Athletic -Community activities Requires input from many Input mainly from teacher sources: Senior Profile, Parent writing based on Assessment, Shorts Forms, etc... performance in teacher’s class One version is written. Parental Role • Model good decision making and how to handle acceptance and rejection • Discuss expectations and limitations - college selection - number of applications - financial restrictions • Social Media discussion
Reminders • Any changes made to course schedules after sending applications must be communicated by the student to the colleges • Senior year grades are important: more colleges are asking for quarter grades (if required, typically for ED applicants) as well as mid-year grades (for regular admissions and deferred early applicants) • Encourage “thank-yous” to teachers/advisors
