INTRODUCTION TO SHOPPING Paderborn area is well serviced for shops. The center of town as a great shopping area to suit all budgets. Most shops will be able to assist you in English. Generally shops are open Monday – Saturday 08:00 – 20:00 hrs, with some of the larger Supermarkets are now open until 22:00 hrs. Smaller shops may shorter opening hours and close at lunch. Banks also close at lunchtime. Shops do not open on a Sunday, with the exception of some bakeries that open between 08:00 – 13:00 hrs and the petrol stations.. However, occasionally, shops may be open on a Sunday from 13.00 - 18.00 for festivals or late night shopping events. Check in the HIVE for local shopping events. The Winter-Schlussverkauf (winter sale) and Sommer-Schlussverkauf (summer sale) can be very good with many items such as clothing, household and sporting equipment up to half price. The sale begins on the last Monday of January and July respectively and runs through to the second following Saturday. In Germany no shop, other than a Chemist (Apotheke) will sell over the counter medicines. SUPERMARKET SHOPPING Aldi, Edeka, Lidl & Netto More common here than UK and popular too. Good offers that change weekly with great prices.
