Opportunities for companies in the mobility sector through the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan - PNRR Matteo Sonza Reorda Vice Rector for Research Politecnico di Torino
Polito involvement in PNRR calls related to Mobility Politecnico di Torino is involved in the following PNRR projects in the mobility sector: • Centro Nazionale Mobilità – low TRL (Technology Readyness Level) • Ecosistema NODES – high TRL • 2 Infrastrutture Tecnologiche di Innovazione: ISM4Italy and InFuturo
Centro Nazionale Mobilità Centri Nazionali are new national research centers dedicated to innovative themes and based on the university-industry collaboration Globally at the Italian level, Centro Nazionale Mobilità represents: • 394 million euros investment for 3 years 2023-2025 • 696 dedicated researchers and 574 new researchers
Centro Nazionale Mobilità - role of Polito Polito will coordinate the Spoke 2 dedicated to Sustainable road vehicle and will significantly contribute to research in other spokes: • Connected and Autonomous Vehicle • Connected networks and Smart Infrastructure • Innovative Materials and Lightweighting • Electric Traction and Batteries. The global objectives are making the mobility system more green as a whole and more digital in the management, through light solutions, electric and hydrogen propulsion systems, digital systems to reduce accidents, more efficient solutions for public transport and logistics, a new model with mobility as a service, accessible and inclusive.

Ecosistema NODES - Nord Ovest Digitale E Sostenibile «Ecosistemi dell’innovazione» will bring social and economic innovation thanks to the collaboration among universities, local institutions and local companies. Polito has coordinated the proposal NODES together with 24 actors : 8 Universities, 6 Innovation Poles, 5 Research centers, 3 Incubators and 1 Accelerator, 1 Competence Center. Globally, the project will bring 110 milion euros to the involved territories Piemonte, Valle d'Aosta and Lombardia (Como, Varese and Pavia).

dedicated to Industry 4.0 for
mobility and aerospace.
The research areas concerning Industry 4.0
mobility will focus on:
- the process of hydrogen generation

for electric mobility.

into RFNBO (Renewable Fuels Of Non-Biological Origin)
• Development of infrastructure for sustainable mobility
based on EPV
• Components, systems and services for smart charging,
wireless charging, vehicle to grid integration, network
stability
• Components for mixed mobility H2 - EPV
• New sustainable materials for applications in the
mobility sector.

Sostenibile – Flagship projects
The two flagship projects of the Spoke will develop
infrastructures able to offer to SMEs an environment for
experimentation and testing of new technologies and
solutions.
The objective is to support the development of relevant
internal know-how and skills for innovating the field of
new sustainable mobility systems.
1. Development of a system for the production,
distribution and use of green H2, for applications on
extra-urban heavy mobility
2. Development of an electric charging system for
electric vehicles and related innovative services.

In the context of the two flagship projects, 5.8 million euros of the
overall budget of the Spoke 1 wil be allocated to cascade calls for
companies for:
- Applied research activities
- Training and education programs on the topics of the spoke
- Acceleration activities for startups.
Opening of the calls: Spring 2023Infrastrutture tecnologiche di innovazione (ITEC) OBJECTIVES ITEC are infrastructures, instruments, capacities and services able to develop, test and empower new technologies before they enter the competitive market. The innovation production capacity needs to be dedicated to companies for a significant quota. POSSIBLE ACTIONS Creation or modernization of infrastructures located in a single site or distributed that will guarantee an interface with users. HOW IT WORKS A public subject (University, research Center) coordinates the proposal and in the acting phase needs to have the contribution of the private sector supporting 51% of the initiative through a PPP-Public Private Partnership. PNRR funds are up to 49% of the eligible costs.

Innovative PhDs with PNRR -DM 352
In 2022 Polito has activated 104 positions for
PhDs in collaboration with private
companies through DM 352.
Many others will be activated
in 2023 and 2024
Conditions:
• 50% of the cost covered by the company
(45.000 for the 3 years PhD period)
• 6-18 months to be spent in the company
• 6-18 months to be spent in a foreign
research center
