OPEN CALL: veículoSUR 2020 – international itinerary residency Application deadline: March 20, 2020, 23:59h veículoSUR is a residency that travels internationally and serves the purpose of artistic networking. It promotes exchange and encounters between artists and cultural practitioners from six different countries – Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, France, Germany and Finland – and facilitates synergies between professional and emerging artists who explore different forms of artistic practice and production together through dialogue, collaboration and exchange. During its second edition in 2020, the aim of veículoSUR is to empower artists and cultural practitioners who perceive themselves as "strange bodies" in their practice, to enable them to acknowledge differences and cultural diversity and to understand a "strange body" as one that questions normativity and embodies other narratives. A porous body that was marginalized, folklorized, dehumanized, attacked, made invisible, colonized and is subjected to a structure that makes it an object. The residency proposes displacement as a format, both in terms of artistic creation and ideological mobility. The continuous shift of context invites the participants to question and rethink their own practice based on a diverse dialogue. The open call is aimed at artists and cultural practitioners based in Uruguay (nationwide), Chile (nationwide), Brazil (São Paulo/Estado), France (Lyon, Bourges, Marseille and the belonging regions), Germany (München) and Finland (nationwide). The working language will be decided with the working group; the use of multiple languages is possible. We are looking for artists and cultural practitioners • whose main research topic or tool is the body, with a multidisciplinary approach to the topic of “strange bodies and conflict of norms”, which the residency evolves around.
• from different disciplines who are linked to a network in their field and work together with other cultural agents. • who promote collective and interdisciplinary work and consider the experience of working together an important part of the creative process. Our platform aims to reflect and question conventional systems of art production that strive for a final product. • who, in their practice, address local urgencies, who shift and provoke, whose work questions regulations and formats. • who see autonomy as a way of working - although the group's programme in each country gives a thematic, conceptual and local impulse to the group, the participants themselves are responsible for developing a methodology to work together that may or may not connect the different perspectives. veículoSUR offers • Transfer from the country of residence to the countries that are part of the itinerary • Transfer between the countries on the itinerary • Accommodation in all countries on the itinerary • Catering or per diems in all countries on the itinerary • Scholarship in the amount of 2500 Euro for the entire travel time • Transfer within each country • Working space and material in all countries on the itinerary Depending on the conditions in each country, the facilities might be shared. The participants of Uruguay, Chile, Brazil and Finland will need to travel to and from the capital on their own expenses.

About veículoSUR veículoSUR was launched in 2014, when the development and elaboration of the itinerant residency format started in the context of the residency Movimiento Sur (Chile). In 2018, the first edition took place, in which five artists travelled through five countries over a period of three months, taking part in a diverse programme in the respective places that evolved around the themes of collective and scenic practice. In
2020, a team of curators organizes and enables the realization of the project in the respective countries: Thais Ushirobira (Brazil), Andrea Arobba (Uruguay), David Muñoz (Finland), Mario Lopes (Germany), Maelys Meyer (France) and Marcela Olate (Chile). veículoSUR proposes a transdisciplinary and transregional platform that opens space for training, production, artistic action and for the discussion of personal and collective emergencies. It explores how conflicts of norms and strangeness ascribed to certain bodies shape the way we form relationships and limit our ability to survive. As an itinerant residency it creates spaces in which aesthetic and political strategies as well as practices of autonomy and resistance can be shared, studied and connected. veículoSUR addresses questions such as: How can art be created in economically and politically complicated times, in places with great social tensions? Which movements and actions make the insurgency of other voices audible that were previously silenced? What kind of art do artists and collectives produce that escape the so-called "centre" and in what ways do they produce? What discourses do they address? What is the history at stake? veículoSUR is very grateful for the cooperation and support of an international network of institutions based in all the participating countries: INAE/ Instituto de artes escénicas (Uruguay), EAC /Espacio de arte contemporáneo (Uruguay), GEN/ Centro de artes y ciencias, CasaAlmargen (Uruguay), Iberescena (veiculoSUR versión Chile), SESC (Brazil),Goethe-Institut São Paulo (Brazil), Emmetrop (France), NTH8 (France), Kulturreferat Munich (Germany), Tanztendenz (Germany), Institut Français de Munich (Germany), Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival (Finland), HIAP (Finland) and the Embassy of Brazil (Finland).
