Published by the VGRCCA as a service to our members and residents of the Venetian Golf and River Club. JANUARY 2021 Parcels is a publication of the Venetian Golf and River Club Community Association (www.vgrcca.us) a voluntary, membership- based organization founded in 2008. Its mission, primarily focusing on issues “outside the gates” is separate and distinct from the Property Owners Association ( POA ) and the Venetian Community Development District ( VCDD) OF INTEREST TO OUR RESIDENTS WEBINARS This year the VGRCCA, starting in June, began planning its season’s series of events. Although challenging, the Community Association felt that residents would appreciate a continuation of various programs to bring a little change to what has become a slowed- down lifestyle. The VGRCCA has, at the end of Parcels, a tentative list of events, but will give more detail in a soon to be sent email. Laurel Rd. Cleanup You might notice the sign on Laurel Rd when you turn right, that acknowledges the Community Association involvement in the County’s “ Keep Sarasota County Beautiful Adopt a Road Program”. Thanks to our volunteers we have been able to address some of the litter that unfortunately has been strewn on Laurel Rd. This year, Clean Up Laurel Rd will be bi-monthly on the third Monday of the month. The first Laurel Rd Cleanup will be held on Monday, January 18th. Participants should assemble just across the road from the Venetian at 8: 15 am. This is a great way to serve both the VGRC and the city where you live. New Logo for Front Gates Regretfully, there have been several times that drivers have crashed into and damaged the entrance and exit gates. A temporary stop gap was to install STOP signs to make the gates more visible. You will soon see a more permanent solution with Venetian logo signs that are reflective and more attractive in addition in making the gates more visible. The idea and funding for this solution emanated from your VGRC Community Association and has been approved by the CDD. Thank you for reading Parcels. If you have a story idea click on “reply” and let us know.

Outstanding “ Leap Frog” Grades for Area Hospitals Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are assigned to over 2,600 general acute-care hospitals across the nation, twice annually. The Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. This year, Sarasota Memorial achieved an A which they have consistently done for a number of years. Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital achieved an A which is a noticeable improvement from previous years. Doctor’s Hospital also received an A. Congratulations to the staff at all three hospitals. We are fortunate to have three great hospitals in our area which by the way, may be a great selling point if you plan to put your home on the market. Parcels from Paradise - Keeping Venetian Residents Connected... JANUARY 2021 TOP FIVE PRIORITIES FOR YOUR VGRC EXTERNAL TEAM Vgrcca Five Top Priorities A key activity of the Community Association is keeping an eye on things happening “outside our gates,” and advocating when necessary with government officials, to ensure your piece of paradise is preserved. We have been very successful in the past—as detailed in the prior edition of Parcels. And we will continue to work hard. As we thought about our 2021 New Year’s resolutions, we set out the following items as key priorities to keep on top of: ➢ Roads - Making Laurel Road East safe, beautiful, and free of traffic jams. We will also keep an eye on other road developments—for example, development of the “missing link,” a connector that will take Knights Trail all the way to Clark. ➢ LDRs - These are the land development regulations that accompany the City’s Comprehensive Plan. They have been worked on by the city and its planning commission, among others, for a number of months, and drafting will continue in the first half of the year, with plenty of public workshops. These are very important as they govern regulations for building and development, zoning, and more. ➢ Development - Over development is an issue, and we need to ensure future development is not too dense, is compatible with our area, and maintains the peace and quiet of our community. Some specific properties we are keeping an eye on is the open area by Grand Treviso apartments (called “Mirasol Town Center” lots), a proposed rental community across from Toscana Isles (called “Generation of Venice”), the Hurt Property (214 acres off Knights Trail, also across from Toscana Isles and north of Triple Diamond), among others. ➢ Parks - Our community clearly stated that Northeast Venice needs parks, providing for preserving green space in our area, as well as amenities. The City of Venice has established a Northeast Venice Parks Stakeholders group, which the Community Association is a part of. The initial meeting at City Hall is this month. ➢ Water Quality - Helping prevent red tide is a key concern for all, so that we may continue to enjoy our beaches and keep our property values high. The City has recently committed to significant stormwater improvement projects to help reduce nutrient pollution that exacerbates red tide (paid for by a very slight increase in utility billing). And while on the topic of water, the Community Association has been involved in the efforts to provide stronger water pressure for the Venetian, which is moving forward and with which we will continue to stay on top of. ➢ Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Venice - We will continue to keep abreast of, and impact where necessary, further development of the hospital and surrounding area, including its expansion. All in all, your Community Association volunteers expect to be extremely busy!
