Open Tuesdays through Satur- days, 10am to 5pm. Greater Ithaca Art Trail Group Exhibit Visit the CAP ArtSpace on Gallery Night and see a group exhibit showing the work of all 50 artists on the Community Arts Partnership's Greater Ithaca Art Trail! Visit studios on two Open Studios weekends - October 9, 10, and 16, 17. There will also be great virtual events you can register for on weeknights. 3. State of the Art Gallery 120 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. / State St. soagithaca.org | facebook.com/stateoftheartgallery 607-277-1626 Hours: Thursday-Sunday, 12-5pm. “Close to Home ~ and Then Some” Show dates: September 30-October 31, 2021, with a reception Friday, October 1, 5-8pm—contingent on COVID protocols. Close to Home ~ and Then Some is a two person show of oil paint- ings by Patty Porter and drawings and photographs by Diane Newton. Porter’s paintings focus on local landscapes, many featuring paths that offer the viewer visual choices, perhaps suggesting metaphors for their personal experiences. Newton’s drawings are landscapes of Ithaca and the Boston area (“and then some”) and her photographs are part of her series “What Rain and Darkness Can Reveal.” In the Salon will be work by other gallery members. Hours: Thursday-Sun- day, 12-5pm. State of the Art is part of the Greater Ithaca Art Trail so the gallery will be open 11am-5pm, October 9-10 and 16-17. The gallery follows NY State and Tompkins County COVID protocols. Alley Cat Cafe 312 E Seneca Street / yenospina.com Gallery Available during all normal business hours, 4-6pm on the 1st for Gallery Night Yen Ospina Yen Ospina is a Queer Colombian-American self-taught artist and illus- trator depicting her own interpretation of folk and art nouveau. Through earth tone colors, ornamental layouts, and meticulous detail, the work challenges viewers to delve beyond aesthetic allure and allow mysticism to guide their interpretation. Her work is influenced by years of exposing herself to antique art (such as Gustav Klimt & Alphonse Mucha), furniture, and literature. 5. Hilton Garden Inn 130 E. Seneca St.| www.ithaca.hgi.com Vincent Joseph “Fall Flowers” Vincent Joseph is a recent resident of Burdett after years of living in Brooklyn NY. His paintings explore the relationship between nature and imagination. By seeing and then translating the experience into a painterly metaphor, the paintings make a connection between painter and the environment. The hope always mixed with doubt is that some- thing reflective, poetic and even moral is expressed about our being in the world. 6. Established in 2010, the firm provides a broad range of services, including landscape architectural design, project and approvals planning, public outreach, and design team coordination. The projects we work on range from planning the open space systems for infill mixed-use construction to district master plans for our municipal and private clients. 7. Beyond Art Interactive Art Space 171 east state street (Center Ithaca on the Commons) www.seebeyond.art Pop Up Immersive Experience The BEYOND Art Pop-Up Interactive Immersive Art Installation is a ridiculously fun and en- gaging experience for all ages that is the work of a collective over 20 local artists. Exhibits include a 12 foot tall rideable unicorn, an infinite fluorescent forest, a room covered in faux fur, original, unique video games and consoles, participatory costume, fabric and performance art, a flying UFO and robots, and much more!
8.Breaking Barriers: Women's Lives & Livelihoods - The History Center Tompkins Center for History & Culture | 110 N. Tioga St. OPEN Gallery Night: 5pm to 8pm. Open Tuesdays through Satur- days, 10am to 5pm. Breaking Barriers: Women's Lives & Livelihoods Breaking Barriers: Women's Lives & Livelihoods explores the lives of women in public and private spheres across the centuries through six interactive exhibits: Haudenosaunee In- fluence on Women's Rights (Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation), The Overlooked History of Women Working (HistoryForge), Serial Style: The Business of Being Irene Castle (Wharton Studio Museum and Cornell Fashion + Textiles Collection), Like-Minded Neighbors: Wom- en's Social Clubs and Organizations, and Overcoming Barriers to Vote: Woman Suffrage Movement in Tompkins County. These exhibits connect visitors with the rich and varied lives of women in Tompkins Coun- ty through exploration of the stories, artifacts, and community legacies they left behind. Tompkins County Public Library 101 E Green Street Gallery Hours: Monday-Thursday 9 am – 8 pm, Friday 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturday 10 am – 5 pm (no availability during October 1st Gallery Night) Inaugural Exhibition of Arc of the Moral Universe and Arc of the Viral Universe Notebook Projects - Curated by Carla Rae Johnson These 90 notebooks, completed between 2018-2021, reveal the musings, passions, concerns, and dreams of artists, writers, and creative thinkers who have shared your world during these challenging times. Displayed here in glass cases, each notebook is open to a two-page spread of text or images to give you just a glimpse of what lies inside.

Experience the surreal, transcendent, inspiring psychedelic universe they conjure. Rachel’s motivation for her art is to make a connection with you, the viewer! As well as the idea that offering a piece of art created with her own vision and life experiences in mind can be interpreted differently and even evoke new memories or emo- tions for others. 12. The Kitchen Theatre 417 W State St. | www.thekitchentheatre.org Terranceism - Recent Works Terrance is an award-winning muralist, illustrator and fine artist from WIlmington, Delaware who currently resides in Ithaca, NY. Going un- der the Moniker "Terranceism," his work captures a vivid afro surrealist expressionism in a signature style that makes for a one-of-a-kind viewing experience. https://terranceism.bigcartel.com To ensure the safety of our guests, the Kitchen Theater requires either proof of vaccination or a negative test result (taken within 72 hours of the performance start time) at your time of entry into the theatre. Ink Shop Studio Gallery 330 E State St. | www.ink-shop.org Email: artists@ink-shop.org l Phone: 607-277-3884 Dan Welden | Aesop’s Fables (Color Sequel) Opening Reception: October 1, 2021 5-8pm Showing: October 1, 2021 - October 24, 2021 Aesop’s Fables is a series of symbolic gestures which employs visual opposites, including the hare and the tortoise and the grasshopper and the ant, as metaphors for the Yin Yang philoso- phy. Resurrecting 50-year-old found zinc etching plates that had oxidized beyond redemption. The "Color Sequel” consists of a hybrid series of the same images, augmented with acrylic, water- color and crayon. Dan Welden has been a pioneer of alternative printmaking since 1970 and is a nationally and internationally recognized master printmaker. CSMA 330 E State St. https://csma-ithaca.org/ El Vacío de la Memoria / The Vacuum of Memory Works by Pedro Molina and Marilyn Borror Bor, curated by Paulina Velázquez Solís The tragic erasure of cultural roots and political views is part of the power dynamics, violence, and metamorphosis that the Mesoamerican region has experienced through colonization and struggles against dictator- ships and civil wars. This exhibition features works by two artists from the Central American isthmus, a region particularly tender from these experi- ences and the consequences of geopolitical interests. Pedro Molina from Nicaragua evokes the weight of the effects of the Sandinista revolution gone wrong, loss of life, and his experience as a refugee. Marilyn Borror Bor from Guatemala documents Kaqchikel words and objects that have been marginalized for centuries but still make their way into contempo- rary life. Presented at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) by Cultu- ra Ithaca and the Latino Civic Association of Tompkins County for Latinx Heritage Month.
15. Ben Bookout Pop Up Gallery 113 W. M.L.K. Jr. St. | benjbookout.com Zac Boggs and Alicia Sangiuliano Zac Boggs is a landscape architect, builder and artist who spends his free time in nature studying the landscape. While hiking and exploring Zac is fixated on the complex forms, textures and patterns of old growth trees and roots and is even known to go out of his way to find a heritage tree in the region. These tree sketches are derived using a fine gel point black pen and transcribed through; site sketching, photographs and personal interpretation. This series encompasses a selection of drawings from the past year (2021) where Zac has used hiking and drawing as a meditation process through the pandemic year. Alicia is a multi-media artist based out of Ithaca NY. She is a member of The State of the Art Gallery • founder of The Portrait Studio in Ithaca, and Avenue Exist Magazine. Alicia has studied painting at the New York Studio School and the San Francisco Art Institute. She has spent a lot of time traveling and working with the music collective 5lowershop in San Francisco. For many years Alicia was a freelance photojournalist in the Bay Area documenting the social conditions of economic discrimination and ani- mal welfare. Press Cafe 118 W Green St I Press Bay Alley I facebook.com/ithacapress Sean Gannon – Before the Sculpture The works exhibited are a drawing, painting, and two wall sculptures that show the design and exploration process which proceeds the artist’s cre- ation of a three-dimensional sculpture. They are inspired by the botani- cally rich landscape surrounding the home and studio of the artist.
