The
Passion Play
Return journey from Bradford/Leeds by train to London,
the Eurostar to Brussels, then by coach from Brussels to the
Black Forest and Oberammergau, returning via Brussels.

DAY ONE
Wednesday, August 17th
Bradford/Leeds to Brussels
Depart Bradford/Leeds station and travel by train to
London King’s Cross.
Continue to check-in at St. Pancras for the Eurostar
train to Brussels.
On arrival in Brussels, transfer by coach to the hotel
for room allocation and the evening meal.

DAY TWO
Thursday, August 18th
Journey to The Black Forest
By coach travelling south into eastern France with a stop.
Metz -
A city in the Grand Est region, with gardens and leafy promenades along
the Moselle and Seille rivers. In the old town, the Gothic Metz Cathedral of
Saint Stephen, is famed for its numerous stained glass windows and the
treasury displays a collection, assembled over 1,000 years.
Continue into Germany and to our hotel in Freudenstadt for room allocation and
evening meal.

DAY THREE
Friday, August 19th
Southern Black Forest Region TRIBERG FALLS
After breakfast we travel south by coach to explore
some of the southern Black Forest area and visit the
town of Triberg and Titisee Lake.
Triberg –
This lively city lies in the midst of a wild,
romantic landscape. Here we view Germany’s
highest waterfall as the Gutach river descends
163m through seven spectacular fall levels,
and we enjoy a varied range of walks/strolls
according to our capacity and desire.
Titisee Lake -
After lunch, we travel further south to visit this beautiful lake - one of the best-
known attractions in the Black Forest. Surrounded by forest and low mountains,
it is an idyllic place to relax in a delightful, natural setting. If time permits, the
five mile hike round the Lake may be possible for those able to tackle it.
After supper -
There will be opportunity to reflect together on our day, and share in bible
reflections.

DAY FOUR
Saturday, August 20th
Baden Baden
After breakfast we depart for a tour of Baden Baden
and its adjoining northern Black Forest area.
Baden Baden -
This beautiful spa town from the 19th & 20th centuries had earlier been a
Roman settlement. The town lies at the north western edge of the Black Forest
mountain range. Its temperate climate, and spectacular countryside have led to
it being a popular tourist destination. We view the two castles from the 12th
and 16th centuries and the ‘Paradise Gardens’ with their impressive fountains.
After lunch, we ascend Mt Merkur on the funicular railway to enjoy spectacular
views of the town and surrounding countryside.

Hornisgrinde Wilder See –
On our return to Freudenstadt, we call to see this
impressive nature reserve - the oldest ‘spell forest’
in Baden-Württemberg with its glacial Karsee lake.
We experience the tranquillity that the calm lake
radiates, immerse ourselves in the silence,
breathe deeply, and draw strength for our pilgrimage.
After supper -
There is opportunity to reflect together on our day, and share in bible reflections.

DAY FIVE
Sunday, August 21st
Freudenstadt
We travel into the town and stroll through the
historic centre before joining the Lutheran
congregation for their morning worship at 10 am -
(coffee) for 10.30 am.
(There may be an alternative local open air
Forest worship option).
FREUDENSTADT
Afterwards we tour the town, and disperse
for various lunch options.
Nature Walk -
After lunch, we choose from a variety of forest
and nature walk/stroll options before returning
to our hotel for a time of sharing and
preparation for our Oberammergau experience.
After supper -
We join together in worship and fellowship.

DAY SIX
Monday, August 22nd
Journey to Oberammergau
We have a prompt departure after breakfast, making our way south east towards
Bavaria.
Lake Constance -
We have a lunch break on the banks of this 42 mile long lake that borders
Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Fed by the Rhine River, it is composed of
connected parts, the Untersee and the larger Obersee.
LAKE CONSTANCE
Bavaria -
We travel through wonderful Bavarian countryside in the foothills of the Alps.
With its unique culture and traditions, Bavaria is the largest German state by
land area comprising a fifth of the land area of Germany.
Oberammergau -
We arrive at our accommodation with time to check in and enjoy our evening
meal.
After supper -
We reflect on our day together, with a simple time of evening worship together.

DAY SEVEN
Tuesday, August 23rd
The Passion Play
We relax after breakfast, meet for
morning prayer, and enjoy the beauty of
the village before having lunch together.
We attend the afternoon performance in
the special ‘open air’ Passion Play Theatre.
After our evening meal in the village
we attend the 2nd half of the play.

DAY EIGHT
Wednesday, August 24th
Journey to Brussels
Depart Oberammergau village after breakfast by coach towards Brussels,
with refreshment stops on the way and visiting:
Luxembourg -
A small European country with a recorded history that can be traced back to
Roman times. We visit its capital, Luxembourg City, famed for its fortified
medieval old town perched on sheer cliffs.
LUXEMBOURG
Namur -
The Belgium city stands at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers
and straddles three different regions and began as an important trading
settlement in Celtic times. The town’s most prominent sights are the Citadel
dated at 937A.D. and the distinctive 18th-century cathedral dedicated to
Saint Aubain.

DAY NINE
Thursday, August 25th
Brussels to Bradford/Leeds
Depart after breakfast by coach to Brussels Eurostar station for the
return journey via London to Bradford/Leeds.

Some Facts and Images of Oberammergau Village
The village, famous as the home of a long tradition of woodcarving, is where the Bavarian State Woodcarving School
is located. Among the celebrated former students is the German artist Wolfram Aichele. His processional church staff
depicting Christ on a donkey can be seen in the church of St Peter and St Paul. The streets of central Oberammergau
are home to dozens of woodcarver shops, with pieces ranging from religious subjects, to toys, to humorous portraits.
Oberammergau is also famous for its “Lüftlmalerei,” or frescoes, of traditional Bavarian themes, fairy tales,
religious scenes, found on many homes and buildings. The village is also known for its religious art.
A wooden statue of Our Lady of Good Voyage from Oberammergau stands in the Seaport Shrine in
