2021 Cleveland Congenital Heart Walk Walk Participant Guide
Welcome and Thank You!
Thank you for participating in the 2021 Cleveland Congenital Heart Walk!
The Children’s Heart Foundation is the leading organization solely dedicated
to funding congenital heart defect (CHD) research. Our mission is to advance
the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CHDs by funding the most
promising research. To date, you’ve helped fund nearly $14 million in CHD
research and scientific collaboration, leading to dramatic increases in
survival, longevity, and quality of life for Heart Warriors, and honoring every
Heart Angel. Thank you.
In 2021, we’re observing our 25th Anniversary, and will look back at the amazing
research that you’ve helped to fund, showcasing some of the incredible
research breakthroughs and the investigators behind them. We’ll also look ahead
to important advances on the horizon you are helping to drive.
Last year, despite the circumstances, you raised more than $1,050,000 for CHD
research at our Congenital Heart Walks! Nearly 25,000 supporters tuned
into our very special virtual events, bringing us all closer together, as we shared
exciting research and mission updates, and many beautiful moments with
our Heart Warriors and Heart Angels. This year, every Congenital Heart Walk will
again include virtual components, with in-person & virtual hybrid events in the
coming months.
Our 2021 events include:
• A dynamic two-day virtual Walk Week program, including updates on the
science you’re funding, videos from more of our strong and brave Heart
Warrior and Heart Angel families, and engaging games, activities, and live
gatherings.
• On Walk Day, join us live for our Mission updates, Moment of Silence and
Heart Angel Remembrance, Research Remarks, Acknowledgments, Awards
and Entertainment! Then, walk where you are, and share your photos!
• This guide outlines the event schedule, where to tune in, and includes an
official event bib to customize and wear on Walk Day!

Fundraising Ideas!
In honor of the child born every 15 minutes in the U.S. with a congenital heart defect (CHD), we’ve
got 15 fundraisers you can hold virtually or with physical distancing, to support you in raising
critical research funds for our mission. You can access the full Virtual Fundraisers Guide here.
Food and Feasts
Food can bring us all together, and you can share CHD and Children’s Heart Foundation information
while collecting donations or participation. Some ideas include:
• Neighborhood Lemonade, Bake or Garden Sale, Cookie Exchange, Cooking for CHDs, Online Ice
Cream Social, Virtual Wine Tasting
Fun and Fitness
We’re physically distancing, but you can close the social distance with online parties, hangouts and
get-togethers. Charge admission fees, or encourage donations and pledges for:
• Online Game Night, Karaoke Night, Take A Pledge/Make A Pledge, At -Home or Drive -In Movie Night!
Scavenger Hunt or Road Rally
Family, Friends and Fans
Every year our walkers and teams generate generous support from family, friends, co-workers,

you’re helping to fund! Hear our Medical Advisory Council members and other
researchers explain the differences these grants stand to make for Heart Warriors!
11:00 AM – Getting To Know Our Warriors and Angels
Join us for some short video reels as we introduce some of our Heart Warrior and Heart Angel
families. In this segment, Your Special Heart, Warrior and Angel siblings share about their heart
defects and a bit about themselves.
2:00 PM – Heart Heroes
Join us for some short video reels as we introduce some of our Heart Warrior and
Heart Angel families. In this segment, When I Grow Up, Warrior and Angel siblings tell
us about whether they want to be a doctor, a teacher, a mechanic, or another role!
5:00 PM – Family Focus Join us over Zoom* for these family gatherings.
Local B-I-N-G-O. Join us for a family-friendly, locally-themed BINGO game, with lots of laughs and
