Please take a few minutes to introduce yourself to these new residents. Kentucky Derby winner – Preakness Stakes winner – Medina Spirit THE 153RD BELMONT STAKES Rombauer IS SATURDAY, JUNE 5TH T.V. Coverage on NBC begins at 5:00 with race time approx. 5:47 p.m. Get ready for the last exciting event this year in horse racing! Will it be Medina Spirit, the Kentucky Derby winner or, the Preakness Stakes 11-1 longshot winner, Rombauer to repeat? Could there be another horse entirely different to take the last leg of the Triple Crown? We’ll find out on the 5th. We will have Racing Sheets which will be available for you with a complete list of the horses competing. Make your predictions as to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. The forms will be available to you on the June 1st. They must be turned in to Chris by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, the 4th. Any form(s) received after then will not count. Oak Grove Inn Winners will be paid in our Funny Money in the following way if you pick the correct horse(s) finishing in – First Place Horse = $25.00 First & Second Place Horses = $50.00 First, Second, & Third Place Horses = $100.00
JUNE IS NATIONAL ICE TEA MONTH (LADIES THIS IS JUST FOR YOU) BE “IN THE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9th PINK” DAY AT 2:00 P.M. The ladies of Oak Grove Inn are invited to come to the IL Clubroom as we will have a Ladies Tea. Enjoy sipping on tea served cold (or hot). We’ll have regular teas or you can try something new. There are so many new varieties and flavors with some having very good health benefits. So, mark your calendar and plan to come for a nice relaxing afternoon shared with friends, while enjoying finger sandwiches and of course, plenty of tea. So ladies, you’re asked to be “IN THE PINK” and wear something that color to the Tea. It can be clothing or an accessory like a pink hat, or scarf. Make sure to remind your neighbors so they’ll be aware. This will be our first Ladies Tea in over a year so let’s make it a good one! MONDAY, JUNE 14TH IS NATIONAL FLAG DAY & PAUSE FOR THE PLEDGE *PROGRAM BEGINS AT 10:30 A.M. Join us as we “Rally ‘round the Flag Pole” on Monday, June 14th (weather permitting). The program is being presented by the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 4 and their leader along with several of their volunteers. The flag pole is located on the Independent Living’s front parking lot. If you’re an assisted living resident and would like to attend, we will have access to the Grove Park golf cart and can transport several of you at a time from AL to IL easily. Just let us know that you wish to attend. We will also be setting up the sound system so that everyone will be able to hear the presentation. *However, we will have to cancel if it rains. We are making this a community-wide event so our neighbors in Grove Park have been extended an invitation to attend as well. Then, at 2:30 p.m. join us as we have a special presentation titled, “I Am Your Flag”. This will be held in the IL dining room. Make sure your cell phones are on SILENT mode since this is like a military program.
FOR OUR FATHER’S ON FRIDAY, JUNE 18TH IN HONOR OF JUNE BEING NATIONAL STEAKHOUSE MONTH AND IN CELEBRATING FATHER’S DAY, WE WILL BE SERVING A SPECIAL MEAL FOR LUNCH. HERE IS THE MENU: FILET MIGNON MUSHROOMS & ONIONS BAKED POTATO FRESH ASPARAGUS For Father’s Day at Oak Grove Inn, we’re going to “TIE ONE ON”! Friday, June18th at 3:00 p.m. IL Dining Room However, it’s not what you think. In honor of it being Father’s Day week-end and the #1 gift for fathers has always been a neck tie, we’re ALL going to wear neck ties in their honor. Ladies, this includes you as well! If you can’t find a tie don’t worry, we’ll have some extras on hand. You’ll need to wear them especially that afternoon as we celebrate the occasion with the men’s favorite, a homemade ice cream social. Thanks to the generosity of volunteer, Jeff Mayton, we’ll have several flavors available to choose from – fresh peach, fresh strawberry, plain vanilla, and orange/pineapple sherbet. Entertainment provided by The Alexanders. Come and enjoy! THE FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION CONTINUES.......... On Saturday, June 12th, we’ll be taking our men for a breakfast at at Chappy’s Deli. Our bus will leave here at 8:00 a.m. so if you would like to attend, you must get your name on the Activity Sheet. FATHER’S DAY, SUNDAY, JUNE 20TH AT LUNCH YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER SPECIAL MEAL CATERED JUST FOR YOU. YOU’LL ENJOY A SEAFOOD FEAST FIT FOR A KING!
TAKE A WALK / DRIVE ON THE WILD SIDE! AS WE TAKE A TRIP TO ALABAMA’S SAFARI PARK. MONDAY, JUNE 15th, LEAVING HERE AT 1:30 P.M. In the Safari Park, you'll be able to see animals run and frolic on the 350-acre property. The animals are free to roam! Drive your vehicle over three miles of maintained gravel road and feed the animals through your windows! But don't be in a hurry, the animals often block your path...or lay flat-out in the sun where ever they please! The park encourages interaction by allowing visitors to feed the animals with their specialty grain which is on sale at the park entrance. The staff is dedicated to helping guests appreciate our animals in the beautiful and natural setting of the foothills of Alabama (Hope Hull). The park ride takes about 45 minutes. Please sign-up on Activity Sheet if you would like to go on this very unique Adventure. CANCEL IF RAINS. Park Admission for Seniors (65+) is $20.95 Pay at the Gate. *Admission does not include the animal feed which they sell. CELEBRATING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THIS SONG BEING #1 IN 1955 AND STAYING AT #1 FOR 7 WEEKS...... Songs like, Rock Around the Clock, Cherry Pink (and Apple Blossom White), Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Sincerely, and many, many other hits make up the sounds of the 50’s. At 3:00 p.m., on Friday afternoon, June 25th, Oak Grove Inn will turn the IL dining room into an authentic looking 50’s style diner. We’ll be playing music from that time and ask that everyone, residents and staff, to dress the part, whether it be poodle skirts or rolled up jeans and sneakers. It’ll be COOL MAN COOL! Entertainment by Preston Frazier!! We’ll be having several fun activities taking place during the party so get ready for a fun afternoon!

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT YOU & FROM YOU! Clara Coughlin attended yet another happy event in her long life! She attended a wedding on May 15th where her grandson, Grant Judah, son of Mary Ellen Judah (Ms. Coughlin’s daughter) was wed to Miss Amelia Sutton. The wedding took place outdoors at The Ledges Country Club which sits atop the highest point in Huntsville. The newlyweds are honey-mooning in the Dominican Republic. The couple will make their home in Huntsville where Grant will split residences between Huntsville and Idaho for a short time until he can bring his job back to the Huntsville area.
