Sharon said: “Grant and I had only been married for seven months when he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in February 2017. “He was given approximately 15-18 months to live, but sadly passed away just three months later." Sharon described how the hospice made life more comfortable for Grant, herself, and their families. She said: “I was able to stay with Grant in his room and I didn’t leave the hospice once he was admitted, something I will be forever grateful for. “The staff were amazing, so kind and caring. New fundraising director outlines ambitions for 'amazing charity' A warm welcome is extended to the hospice's new Director of Fundraising and Communications Mark Flower. Mark brings with him a wealth of third- sector experience, joining the hospice from Tree Aid in Bristol, after previously holding roles with the British Red Cross and St. Margaret’s hospice in Taunton, and BIBIC children’s charity in Langport. Prior to this, he enjoyed a successful 30-year career in finance and insurance, with roles at Zurich and Aegon, before switching to the not-for- profit industry. Mark is confident his corporate and charity fundraising experience can help the hospice further integrate and develop its community and corporate presence. Thank You! Our dedicated, enthusiastic and inspirational group of supporters and volunteers from all across the community are what has kept Weston Hospicecare going... for 30 years and counting! We've been delighted to host Bishop of Taunton, Ruth Worsley, for a visit to the hospice. Ruth said: "I think it’s incredibly inspiring to see so many volunteers and staff intent on making sure people have wraparound care and compassion at the end of their lives, enabling them to live their lives in comfort until the very last moment.” A team from Network Rail spent a day working hard to help tidy the hospice garden ready for spring. The volunteer group worked hard trimming, weeding, digging and pruning, and cleared a dozen green sacks of garden waste. The hospice was chosen to benefit from the team's hard work in memory of former colleague, Jackie Jones, who was cared for by the hospice. A team of runners from First Great Western tackled the Weston Super Half in support of the hospice in March. Weston Train Station manager Victoria Franks said: “The run went well… well as well as it could do, when running 13.1 miles! Luckily it was a beautiful day and that helped us all get round.
