Pastor Scott Updates . . . SEPTEMBER 2020 I wanted to keep you updated on the church financials in this time of Covid and of course during the summer. The good news is that while giving is down slightly, so are expenses as we haven’t had some of the programming we might normally have. We just received the July numbers and so I’ll give you both July and the year to date which leaves us slightly in the black. July Giving $ 97,479 Jan-July Giving $766,653 July Expenses -$103,440 Jan-July Expenses -$755,413 Difference -$ 5,961 Difference $ 11,240 This is a really great place to be in going into the Fall, but we are also beginning to try and re- sume some program and activities and we are searching for a Youth Director and so I prayerfully ask if you are able to continue your giving to God through the work of the Church. I appreciate the work of all the committees, and including Finance who have mostly met by Zoom during the months to keep the church in a strong financial position. If you have any questions I know that Ed Yale, Finance Chair or myself would be happy to an- swer them. In Christ Pastor Scott Drive Thru Holy Communion on Sunday August 2 A huge “Thank You” to Cathy Hubbard and Jan Pipkin who helped prepare and serve our Holy Com- munion elements. Page 2 . . .
Pastor Kristi says . . . SEPTEMBER 2020 Dear Church Family, I can’t believe it has already been two months since I arrived in San An- gelo! We have already shared at the Lord’s Table, worshiped God together, enjoyed an outdoor service, played crazy games at the Youth Back to School Bash, and shared precious time together on many zoom meetings. I can’t even imagine all God has in store for us over the next few months but I am excited and ready. Over the next month or two I will continue to reach out to different small groups in the church so we can have a meet and greet time over zoom. I have loved getting to know each and every one of you and look forward to the great conversations we will continue to have in our time together. If you or your small group would like to participate in a meet and greet, Pastor Kristi please reach out to me. You can catch me on Sunday morning or contact me through my email (kcrisp@riotx.org) or Facebook messenger. I am excited to be in ministry with you all! Grace & Peace, Pastor Kristie Crisp We hope that you will join us in person, online, or on the radio Sundays at 11am. We are “Finding God’s Word” in Disney movies: we will discuss Beauty & the Beast on Sept. 6; UP on Sept. 13; and The Lion King on Sept. 20 & 27. COME JOIN US! A FUMC/LakeView Outing! Page 3. . .
Generosity through Service . . . SEPTEMBER 2020 If you've been affected by Covid19: loss of job; income or some other way and have a need please contact a Pastor so we can figure out a way to help you. We have some disaster funds as well as Methodist Assistance and the Massey Trust that are all intended for this purpose. 655-8981 FUMC - CPS PARTNERSHIP On April 7, 2020, the church entered into a partnership with Child Protective Services to provide meals for kids who fall under their temporary care. Since there is not a full kitchen at the site, volunteers agree to be on stand-by to provide dinner as needed. Typically a call comes in the morning alerting us to the need. Next a text message goes out to the team to try and cover 3-4 days at a time. Whoever is available agrees to take a day. Sometimes the child is placed in Foster Care before then and sometimes we need to schedule another 3-4 days. The volun- teer for the day is put in touch with the Supervisor on call to inquire about meal requests (usually fast food) and to set up a delivery time. The meal is then dropped off at the site and that's it! The folks on this team have bonded through this ministry - they all love kids so much, and it shows through their random acts of kindness in making each of these children feel extra special. Other than dinner, they've also provided Birthday Cakes, clothes, holiday meals with treats, and so much more. If you love helping kids, you might consider serving on this team. FMI contact Sherrie Walker in the Church Office or ask one of the people listed below. Please also thank them for all they do! Brenda Stone Beth McCrea Laura Malloy Stacie Elkins Ofelia Gonzales Stephanie Igler Lori Francks Lana Mott Karen Clark Trudy Bozeman FUMC - SHANNON COVID RESPONDERS Every weekday since the end of April, a mini army of volunteers has taken meals from Shannon Hospital to the homes of people under COVID quarantine. This no-contact meal delivery requires 2-3 drivers daily, each taking meals to 4-5 families. Our amazing volunteers, listed below, are faithful in their devotion to this ministry. Most of them have delivered at least once a week since we began nearly four months ago. Please ask them about it, and join us in thanking them! Drivers: Cheyenne Barden Gary & Leslee Bowen Trudy Bozeman Kaitlyn Brosh Karen Clark Evelyn Coley Kristie Crisp Martha Dolliver Lori Francks Ofelia Gonzales Stephanie Igler Lisa Lesosky Bubba Stevens Chris & Brenda Stone Molly Walker Dori Wegner Johnny & Gay Fender Kim Dickson Moving forward, there are sometimes needs for substitute drivers, so please contact Sherrie Walker in the Church Office if you're interested. If you or someone you know needs help or could use food, please don’t hesitate to contact the church office: 655-8981. There are a lot of resources available to help. Page 4. . .
Helping Hands of Hope! . . . SEPTEMBER 2020 Meals for the Elderly - Drivers Needed FUMC provides volunteers during the month of September to deliver no- contact noon meals (M-F). First Fridays @ the Soup Kitchen First Church volunteers serve every first Friday of the month at The Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, located at Wesley Trinity UMC. HELPING HANDS HELP WITH ADOPTION When Tony Rastetter, Child Protective Services Faith Based Specialist requested help, he was overwhelmed by six churches that responded. What did he need? Ans: help for a grandmother striving to adopt her 3 grandchildren who were in need of a home. In order to qualify for the adoption- just being a relative is not enough. Every potential home must be safe and CPS wanted to help this grandmother make her home safe. Financial support given was overwhelming and the manpower required for reno- vation and repair came from 6 churches providing money and 18 volunteers: First United Methodist, Grace Temple Baptist, Heartland Baptist, Northridge Baptist and Paulanne Baptist. Construction began on Saturday, August 24. Rafters were replaced, the roof repaired, fencing and flooring replaced, appliances moved and shelving re- stored. The adoption will be assured now and the children AND grandmother are ready for school to start! Grandmother plans to complete her GED. Many thanks to FUMC workers Daniel Heare, Dale Weise and Jay Jones. The pictures and information were provided by ConchoValley Home page. Page 5. . .
Mission and Service . . . SEPTEMBER 2020 Somebody’s Rusty Items can be left in By Candis Hicks the office We strive to keep our Courtyard Blessing Box filled, but food always seems to be needed. Individual sized, easy- to-open, non-perishable items work best, and can be brought to the church office at your convenience. Tidings of Last Tuesdays and Laundry Love Held Tuesday, August 25 in the Courtyard.. . A different approach but most helpful nonetheless!!! We fed and clothed over 60 people on the night of Tuesday, August 25 in our front courtyard. This was designed to take the place of Laundry Love at least for a while and also our Tid- ings of Last Tuesday’s clothing distribution we have been doing on the last Tuesday of the month prior to the pandemic. Thank you so much to everyone who donated, worked the event, prayed for us and reached out in support in many other ways. We still are accepting donations of coats and men’s pants in small sizes and also men’s and wom- en’s sturdy walking shoes or tennis shoes. No other clothing is needed at this time. We do always need our regular unopened travel size toiletries, snack size and pop top can food donations, toothbrush, toothpaste , water bottles, Small deodorants and also small mouthwash and hand sanitizer bottles. Combs and brushes new in the package are also greatly needed. We also are always in need of men’s and women’s underwear and socks new in the package in all sizes. Continued page 7 Page 6. . .
Somebody’s Rusty SEPTEMBER 2020 Continued from Page 6 The second Sunday of October will be “Undee Sunday” where underwear will be laid on the altar or we can arrange to come and pick them up at your home. The last Sunday of November will be a collection for the Blessing Box. Empty bags will be sent home on the fourth Sunday of November and people may bring the bags back filled with their dona- tions. The bags will be laid on the altar on the last Sunday of the month. We hope to have a clothing distribution again in September and we will be vigilant to watch how the pandemic is going to help with our decisions. Thank you for your support! Jesus paid it all! YOUTH Ministries SEPTEMBER 2020 A Message From Tony Spirit Families, Spirit was asked to take part in the outdoor worship event held at Lakeview Lighthouse. The singing of “New World Coming” was part of the benediction with everyone joining in. Spirit has been following up every “Godspell” service with the singing of “New World Coming” for the past 24 years. What a much needed time it was to come together in the name of Jesus Christ to share some good news! There was out- door worship, singing, a message, and refreshments along with some social distancing fellow- ship! : ) Wearing our fashionable masks, the youth joined in and took part in the evening service. Gandy Ink has opened an online store in which you can order your parent T-shirt or grandparent or friends. Place your order at Gandy Ink and pay for it. I'll deliver.
