Welcome to News UK With the roadmap to a return to normality now set out, here at News UK we are going to continue to sharing the latest trends and analysis to give you as much information as possible as we navigate the coming weeks and months back to normal life. One thing that we can be sure of is a huge pent up demand from Brits to get travelling again, with holidays consistently topping the list of the most desired activities to be spending on once they can. This is backed up in our latest research that we will be sharing with you very soon. In the meantime, please do let us know if you have any questions or information requests.
Editor’s letter Lisa Grainger Deputy Editor, The Times LUXX + Travel Editor Greece is definitely the word right now. My inbox is deluged with information on new Greek hotels, new Cycladean villas, even new tour operators specialising in Greek trips (who would have thought that a new operator would launch during a pandemic?) That’s because not only has its government been forward thinking – and regularly communicates about how to open Greece’s borders. But they have started to inoculate single islands, so that tourists can feel pretty secure as they enjoy their first Mediterranean holiday for a year. A second note of optimism is from African specialists, who report that UHNWI are starting to go back to the continent, often travelling by private jet and taking over entire camps. As I write, a group of ten American women are in Kenya, celebrating International Women’s Day and travelling around the country to meet inspirational local women and see conservation projects which the women will (hopefully) fund through their philanthropic foundations. All women were vaccinated and tested before they left, and all of the staff who might come into contact with them are regularly tested too. So there are green shoots – which right now is just what we need.
