VCE INDUCTION PACKAGE 2021 UNITS 1 AND 2 HEALTH & HUMAN DEVELOPMENT 1
Dear Students, Welcome to Health & Human Development Units 1 and 2. If you are well organized, motivated and have a good work ethic, you will have an enjoyable and successful year in Health & Human Development. In order to get the most out of this course, there are a number of things that we strongly suggest that you do over the summer and continue throughout the year. 1. Complete the holiday homework task by the first day of Term 1. 2. Familiarise yourself with the detailed course outline provided in this package. 3. Develop a good working relationship with your class teacher and maintain regular communication with them throughout the year in person and via email and Moodle. 4. Develop a study timetable that will assist you in meeting the work deadlines. 5. Ensure that you become familiar with the resources (prescribed textbook, Moodle, websites, notes, other textbooks) 6. Visit the VCAA website regularly to familiarise yourself with past examination papers and to read the examiners’ reports: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au 7. Become familiar with the school’s VCE compliance policy by reading the VCE handbook located on Microsoft Teams. 8. Communicate with students who have studied the subject in previous years to get their perspective and suggestions for success. 9. Ensure that you have a balanced life that consists of schoolwork, exercise, sport, leisure, rest and a healthy diet. If you have any queries about the course, please contact me at school or by email. 2 TOP THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO TO GET THE BEST MARKS 1. At the end of each week- re-read your class notes and make a summary of these notes on the bottom right hand corner of your exercise book or loose leaf paper- refer to page 10. 2. Use Microsoft Teams to get the class notes, PowerPoints, videos, podcasts, website links, forums, chat rooms, upload assignments, check of completed work. 3. Podcast/record your summary notes, in your own words with examples and how it relates to the topic. These can be done on your mobile phone, mp3 player or computer. This will allow you to have a conversation around the topic and be able to listen to the whole textbook in 2 hours. 4. Create flashcards as you go through the chapter’s… www.quizlet.com these can be shared, printed off and sorted into categories. These will help you with definitions and apply to apply them. The trick is to not just write the definition, but to apply the knowledge with examples. You can also put images in; this will help jog your memory. 5. Try to think of the units as a story, and a story that is worth telling. Create a visual representation of the contents of the unit. 6. Seek advice, clarification and ask questions as they arise- in class time and outside of class time. There are no stupid questions. 7. Form study groups to help with the workload; this will assist in the conservations and help you understand the content more effectively. 8. Complete all set work and more!
3 Assessment – Tasks, Dates & Relative Weighting COURSEWORK AND SAC REQUIREMENTS: In order to successfully pass a Unit, all students are required to; ∙ complete all set coursework- Classwork, chapter questions & glossaries ∙ obtain a pass in all scheduled School Assessed Coursework (SACS). Where a student does not pass a SAC they will be given the opportunity to redeem the task in order to reach a satisfactory standard, however where this occurs the students will retain their original mark for VCAA purposes. All students are required to be up to date with their coursework prior to sitting a SAC. Assessment of levels of achievement The student’s level of achievement in Unit 1 and 2 will be determined by school-assessed coursework and the examination. Coursework Requirements For an outcome to be scored, complete the prescribed coursework chapter questions before the date of the outcome. Satisfactory Requirements To obtain an S for each unit students are to; - Attend a minimum of 90% of classes - Complete the coursework – classwork, chapter questions and glossaries - Obtain at least 40% on all outcomes.
4 Unit 1- Understanding health and wellbeing Task Date Area of study 1: Outcome 1: SAC 1 Term 1 Explain the multiple dimensions of health and wellbeing, explain indicators used to Week 6 measure health status and analyse factors that contribute to variations in health status of youth. Term 2 Area of study 2: Outcome 2: SAC 2 Week 3 Apply nutrition knowledge and tools to the selection of food and the evaluation of nutrition information. Unit 3 Outcome 2 Term 2 Area of study 3: Outcome 3: SAC 3 Week 8 Interpret data to identify key areas for improving youth health and wellbeing, and plan for action by analysing one particular area in detail. Unit 2- Managing health and development Task Date Area of study 1: Outcome 1: SAC 1 Term 2 Explain development changes in the transition from youth to adulthood, analyse factors Week 10 that contribute to healthy development during prenatal and early childhood sages of the lifespan and explain health and wellbeing as an intergenerational concept. Area of study 2: Outcome 2: SAC 2 Term 3 Describe how access to Australia’s health system, explain how it promotes health Week 3 and wellbeing in their local community. Area of study 2: Outcome 2: SAC 3 Term 3 Analyse a range of issues associated with the use of new and emerging health procedures Week 6 and technologies. Please note: All sac dates are indicative and all sac dates are negotiable and can change due to internal circumstances.
