Volume Volume 16,, Issue Issue 9 Page 4 HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!!! CMGA/Wyndham Golf Tournament The CMGA-Wyndham Championship Tournament was held at Coharie Country Club on Sunday afternoon, August 15th. Eight teams competed in this one-of-a-kind tournament. Playing handicap was used to make up teams that consisted of four players. Unlike a superball tournament, golfers in this event were required to play their own ball. The best gross score and the best net score were used to determine the gross and net score for each team. The same player could not count for both the gross and net score, requiring each player to complete every hole. In addition to the gross and net score, teams drew a PGA player that was playing in the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro and that player’s Sunday score was added to the gross and net score to get the total team score. The winning team was team Yow and team members were Bob Yow, Michael Mason, Tommy Barker and Ashley Od- um. Team Yow had a gross score of 67, net score of 66 and PGA Pro Justin Rose shot 67 for a total of 200. The second-place team was Team Nance and team members were Bill Nance, Randy Barefoot, Brandon Williams and Smokey Norris. Team Nance had a gross score of 66, net score of 69 and PGA Pro Kevin Streelman shot 66 for a total of 201. Team Walters finished third and team members were Dickie Walters, Bob Carr, Tim Pope and Steve Williams. Team Walters had a gross score of 68, a net score of 69 and PGA Pro Kevin Na shot 66 for a total of 203. The CMGA would like to thank all players for participating in this event and we look forward to our next event soon.

Volume Volume 16,, Issue Issue 9 Page 6 News from the Pool Hello from the pool manager and lifeguards! Another summer at the Coharie pool is almost at an end…wasn’t it a fast one? Thanks to all of you who came out to enjoy the pool…we had overall great attendance this summer...and lots of parties! Thanks also to the lifeguards who made sure everything was clean and everyone was safe. I heard many compliments about the lifeguards this year, and we all appreciate them. They have done a great job! The pool will be open on Saturday and Sunday (August 28-29), and Labor Day weekend (September 4-6) at the usual hours. Then that will be it. So come enjoy the pool for one last hurrah this summer. Also, please check the Lost & Found; so far this summer we have collected 21 beach towels! Water aerobics will still be going on through September. If you want to join, just show up at the pool at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for a good workout. Prices are $30 for six sessions for members, and $45 for six sessions for non-members. We will have our Doggie Swim Day at the pool on Thursday, September 30, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. so tell your dog so he/she will have something to look forward to. I will send out more details in an email closer to the time. If you have any suggestions in reference to the pool, please let me know. Have a great school year, and we’ll see you next summer for fun ‘n’ sun at the Coharie pool! Ms. Susan, pool manager P.S. I start hiring lifeguards for the following summer in February and March, so watch the newsletter for de- tails…and don't miss the deadline for applying. News from the Superintendent August was a long, hot, humid, and crazy month. It started with Member-Guest and kept rolling from there. We had a CMGA tournament, had the Lady Sandtrappers and Southeastern Seniors out, and will end leading into Labor Day. Fortunately, September is here again and with it comes the end of a long season. The Maintenance team had a lot going on last month and that only continues for us in September. August saw us spraying for weeds, army worms, and working our way through too many machine issues. Now that all that is finally behind us (all equipment has been repaired) we can start this month fresh. We still have our normal mowing procedures in place, but things will begin to slow down a bit by the end of the coming month. I will be out spraying for weeds again as well as putting out the winter pre emergent. The greens have several spray applications that will set them up for the arrival of cooler temperatures. We only have a couple of events to work toward, with the George Williams Invitational closing out September. On a final note, Coharie Country Club was voted the best golf course in Sampson County by the Sampson In- dependent. This is something I personally take immense pride in, as it shows how much we are moving for- ward. The Turf Team will be doing all we can to continue this upward trend. Sincerely, Kevin McCamy, GCS
