Goodbye and thank you Mrs Flanagan I’m very sad to say that Mrs Flanagan is no longer a member of sta , after she decided to nish her work as a Teaching Assistant at the end of last term. Mrs Flanagan has probably an unrivalled connection with All Saints, given she attended here herself, as did both of her children, she joined the sta as a lunchtime organiser, she was member of the PTA and then a teaching assistant. She supported children from Early Years to Key Stage 2 and will be sorely missed. Mrs Flanagan may no longer be a member of sta , but she remains a very much loved member of the All Saints family. Thank you Mrs Flanagan. Bradford Colliery As you may know, I’m not from Manchester originally, so I nd it fascinating to discover more about Newton Heath and learn more about its rich and important history. When you look at the Etihad Stadium, the athletics stadium, the tennis centre, the velodrome, the new indoor arena that is being constructed, it is hard to imagine the hard graft and harsh conditions that were there before. Read the article here. I think we should all be proud of Newton Heath, and make sure that its future compares well to its past. Royal Connections The period of national mourning ends tomorrow with the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Within the many tributes, the word service appears very often, and with nearly 80 years of service as a member of the Royal Family, that is not a surprise. I came across photos and stories of his visits to Manchester over the years, and it reminded me of newsreels showing previous members of the royal family visiting Newton Heath. You may be wondering why I would know about this, but my Great Uncle was killed in an Avro Manchester bomber (later to become the Avro Lancaster) in 1942, which was designed in Newton Heath. This visit is by Prince Philip’s father-in-law, King George VI in 1939. Click here. There is an online book of condolence for Prince Philip, please click here if you wish to access it.
